One of the biggest surprises of opening night at Gamescom 2020 was the update trailer and footage shown for Dragon Age 4. While details regarding the plot and the fate of several characters still remain a mystery, the development team at BioWare gave fans a lot to examine during the surprise trailer, including a piece of concept art that may tease the enigmatic Executors.

The concept art from Dragon Age 4's Gamescom trailer shows a character believed to be Dorian Pavus swimming underwater after an unknown female character brandishing a dagger. However, some fans have become slightly more interested in the mysterious figure swimming directly above Dorian. This humanoid figure looks to have a human skull with a bubble over its head, looking like some strange deep-sea diver. Fans are now speculating that this figure is one of the Executors.

The Executors were first introduced in Dragon Age: Inquisition, and almost everything about them remains a mystery. However, they are referenced as living across the sea and are recognized by their symbol, which shows an upside-down triangle behind two wavy lines that represent water. The Executors are closely tied to the ocean, which is why it could be perfectly understandable to see one in underwater concept art in one of Dragon Age 4's latest updates.

Will The Executors Appear In Dragon Age 4?

Dragon Age 4 Update From Bioware Confirms It's Still In Development

In Dragon Age: Inquisition, the Executors are a mysterious race with a strange presence in Thedas. Over the course of the game, one of the Inquisitor's advisors, Leliana, ventures to Caimen Brea in an attempt to learn more about the Executors. Caimen Brea is in Tevinter, the country that serves as the main setting for Dragon Age 4. Based on the setting, it's entirely possible the Executors will make an appearance.

Then there's Solas, who was featured heavily in the Gamescom trailer. Solas doesn't trust Executors, according to Tevinter Nights, an anthology of short stories that released earlier this year in March. Although Solas's role in Dragon Age 4 is still a bit of a mystery, these clues about his relationship to the Executors found in Tevinter Nights could be laying the groundwork for the Executors in Dragon Age 4. Star Wars does this all the time, with characters in Star Wars books hinting at events and plots of future installments.

So far, BioWare is keeping the lid on their secrets very tight. Fans probably won't know more about the plot or characters of Dragon Age 4 until the game gets closer to releasing. In the meantime, the underwater concept art is enough to keep people speculating that the Executors may finally make their big in-game appearance.
