Along with the lore, thrilling combat, and epic plots, one of the big draws of Dragon Age games has always been their romance options, and thankfully, Baldur's Gate 3 offering the choice of polyamorous relationships, many are wondering if Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be offering it as an option as well.

On their mission to save Thedas, Rook is ed by seven companions, all of which are romance options in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Each companion has an interesting personality and a unique outlook on the world, offering something different no matter what type of Rook is being roleplayed. And as one might expect from a BioWare game, there is plenty of time for flirting between all the quips and party banter.

You Can't Romance Multiple Characters In Veilguard, But You Can Flirt

There's No Harm Keeping Your Options Open

Dragon Age The Veilguard six romanceable companions at the Library Table: Davrin, Taash, Bellara, Emmerich, Lucanis, Harding, and Neve

With seven romance options to choose from, Rook is spoiled for choice, but those looking to romance more than one companion will be disappointed. To begin with, all companions can be flirted with by choosing the flirtatious 'heart' dialogue option in conversations. However, after a certain point, Rook will be forced to choose one romance option to commit to, although there are no negative effects from having flirted with multiple characters up until that point.

Veilguard Follows Dragon Age Romance Tradition

Plenty Of Choice But Only One True Love

Dragon Age: The Veilguard keeps up the series tradition by offering multiple romance options to the protagonist, with one ultimately chosen over the others. Approval, as always, plays a large part, and by increasing approval, new dialogues and cutscenes will open up to expand Rook’s relationship with their new friends. This is largely unchanged from Dragon Age: Origins, with choices made during quests, dialogue options, and giving gifts all part of wooing a potential love interest.

All seven companions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard can be romanced by a Rook of any species or gender. Personal quests and interactions are important.

Unlike Origins and Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dragon Age: The Veilguard takes a similar approach to romance as Dragon Age 2, with all romance choices available to Rook regardless of race or gender. This helps keep options open, especially when first getting to know everyone at the beginning, and it helps if planning to romance Emmerich or Taash, who the team last. Most importantly, flirting with different companions doesn't lead to any awkward cutscenes or lock Rook out of any dialogue with anyone else, allowing them to play the field for a while before settling down.

However, not being able to romance multiple characters as Rook opens up the options for one of the sweetest and most realistic aspects of romance in the game. Once Rook has chosen their romantic partner, the other companions will seek out their own romance with each other and other characters, asking for Rook’s advice along the way. So, while Dragon Age: The Veilguard doesn’t offer polyamory for Rook, hopefully, no one will miss out on a chance of love.
