Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima episode #20.Dragon Ball Daima has officially come to a close, but there’s a post-credits scene that can’t be ignored. For over a decade now, post-credits scenes have become a common part of media; whether it’s movies like the Marvel Cinematic Universe or even TV shows, stories will often use post-credits scenes to tease fans that there’s more of the story to come, and that’s always something fun to look forward to.

Anime is no exception to post-credits scenes, and Dragon Ball Daima is the latest example of such. The series finale seemed to end on a conclusive note with Gomah’s defeat and the destruction of the Third Eye, but surprisingly, Dragon Ball Daima’s post-credits scene revealed that the shopkeeper Goku got the Revive Bugs from created the Third Eye and had two more in stock. It’s unknown what that means, but it does suggest that there’s more in store for Dragon Ball Daima, and that would be great to see, no matter how long it takes.

Dragon Ball Daima’s Post-Credits Scene Is The Ultimate Final Joke

Why Dragon Ball Daima's Post-Credits Scene Works So Well

As innocuous as the post-credits scene may be, what’s noteworthy about it is how perfect a joke it is. From the very beginning of Daima, the Evil Third Eye was depicted as an all-powerful weapon, and it still is, but at the same time, it’s also just something a random shopkeeper made without ever realizing how dangerous it could be. Dragon Ball Daima using its post-credits scene to reduce the Third Eye to something anyone could have had if they wanted it is an incredible bit of irony, and it’s an even better joke to end the series on.

Even better, of course, is how that’s perfectly in-line with Akira Toriyama’s style. Whenever Toriyama got the chance to prioritize comedy over serious storytelling, he was never afraid to make the most outlandish jokes he could that would completely deflate the tension in a scene, so Dragon Ball Daima ending with a joke completely demystifying the Third Eye works because it’s the exact type of joke Akira Toriyama would make. Dragon Ball Daima, as a whole, was very much a callback to Dragon Ball’s comedic roots, and overall, it’s great that Toriyama stuck with that to the end.

Does Dragon Ball Daima’s Post-Credits Scene Set Up A Sequel?

Will Dragon Ball Daima Get A Second Season?

The main cast of Dragon Ball Daima

The biggest question to be had about Dragon Ball Daima’s post-credits scene, of course, is whether it sets up a potential sequel. While the idea of extra copies of the Third Eye getting out there could make for a good sequel, as would further exploration of the Demon Realm, the entire scene was framed largely as a gag, and Daima’s story does appear to end things rather conclusively. As such, Dragon Ball Daima’s post-credits scene shouldn’t be seen as setup for a potential sequel, and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.

While there are certainly some questions regarding Dragon Ball Super’s continuity, Daima, at its core, was always meant to be a one-off story of Goku and his friends going on a largely lighthearted adventure, the kind of story Akira Toriyama was always the most comfortable writing, so Dragon Ball Daima doesn’t need a sequel when it’s already done everything it set out to accomplish. Naturally, there’s no way of knowing exactly how things will play out, but if Dragon Ball Daima ends like this, it would hardly be the worst thing in the world.
