The latest entry in Akira Toriyama’s beloved plot hole introduced with Goku’s Super Saiyan 4, viewers still love the show.

Nonetheless, as the hype of its release has died down over the weeks, many fans have begun to voice their displeasure with the retcons Daima brought to the franchise. These claims, while fair in context, do not consider how prevalent changes to the story have been for the series since the very beginning.

Dragon Ball Has Always Been Full of Retcons

The Best Plot Twists Have Been Born From Plot Changes

One of the main issues many fans have with the Dragon Ball Daima anime is the significant number of retcons that the series introduced to the story. This trend began as soon as the show became available, with episode #1 noticeably altering the origin of the Namekian race by making them former inhabitants of the Demon Realm. The anime continued this trend throughout its entire course, making significant alterations to the plot fans had grown accustomed to. The one that frustrated the most fans was the inclusion of a being by the name of Rymus.

Despite being the strongest and most intriguing character ever introduced, as he is responsible for the Dragon Ball multiverse, viewers did not appreciate this sudden change in the story. Yet, when thinking about this issue carefully, this reaction might not be as deserved as fans believe, as Toriyama’s story has been altered from the very beginning. For example, the original series did not have any hints of Goku being a part of an alien race. Still, fans loved the idea of the hero being a Saiyan once the concept was introduced.

Dragon Ball's anime adaptations have always had their fair share of differences from the manga, and one was wrong from the very beginning.

Namekians were also altered long before the introduction of the Daima series, as they were presented as demons native to Earth who wanted to conquer the world. Goku’s first real major antagonist, King Piccolo, called himself the ruler of all demons, even though the Demon Realm’s real monarch had not yet been revealed. Although, understandably, sudden changes like Daima’s can be confusing and irritating for hardcore fans, these decisions have always been a part of the franchise. Moreover, most of them have helped the series remain relevant and interesting for old followers and newcomers.

Daima’s Changes Enrich Dragon Ball’s Lore

The Series Now Has Much More To Explore

Goku, the Supreme Kai, and Glorio in the Demon Realm.

Thanks to the retcons included in the story of Dragon Ball Daima, the world of the series can expand in many incredible ways. The most anticipated by viewers is the backstory and explanation behind Rymus, as this ancient demon seems to be a vital part of the lore of the series. His existence could also help explain Zeno, who has remained one of the franchise’s biggest mysteries for many years. The new changes could also aid the heroes if they ever decide to visit other universes, as it was confirmed that the Demon Realm serves as a connection between them.

The story and world of Dragon Ball will continue changing and expanding with time, as the team behind this beloved story wishes to continue bringing joy to the fans. While it is expected that not everyone will enjoy these alterations, there is much to be gained from accepting the changes and ing Goku on his new adventures.
