Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima episode #19.Dragon Ball Daima episode #19 has provided a brand-new take on Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 transformation, and it’s the best one yet. During the fight with Gomah, in a surprise twist, Goku, with help from Neva, unlocked Super Saiyan 4, and while it looked and functioned differently from its depiction in Dragon Ball GT, seeing it become canon was nonetheless great for fans of the iconic form.
Super Saiyan 4 Goku becoming canon was one of the best things Dragon Ball Daima could have done, and episode #19 just made it even better. As predicted, Glorio used the Demon Realm Dragon Balls to turn Goku and his friends back into adults, and sure enough, Dragon Ball Daima episode #19 gave fans a full look at an adult Super Saiyan 4 Goku through one of the best transformation sequences in the franchise. Super Saiyan 4 Goku is one of the best parts of Dragon Ball Daima, and hopefully, there’s bound to be even more in store for it.
Dragon Ball Daima Celebrates Super Saiyan 4 With The Ultimate Callback
What Makes Super Saiyan 4's Newest Transformation So Great
Dragon Ball Daima episode #19 was the first full look of an adult Super Saiyan 4 Goku, and the anime went all-out with it. Following Dragon Ball Daima episode #18, Goku transformed back into Super Saiyan 4 from his base form, and rather than go straight into it, Dragon Ball Daima episode #19 highlighted Goku’s first use of Super Saiyan 4 as an adult with an amazing transformation sequence with a combination of great music and stunning visuals. Something as iconic as Super Saiyan 4 deserved a stellar sequence, and fortunately, episode #19 more than delivered on that front.
What made the sequence even better was how much of a callback it was. Rather than go straight into Super Saiyan 4, Goku showed off each of his transformations one by one before ending up in Super Saiyan 4, with each transformation shaking more and more of the Demon Realm, all of which is a direct callback to how Goku first unveiled Super Saiyan 3. Dragon Ball Daima highlighting Super Saiyan 4 with a direct callback to Super Saiyan 3’s debut perfectly emphasizes how it’s of similar scale and importance, and overall, that’s great to see.
Dragon Ball Daima Still Needs To Resolve Its Big Continuity Problem
Why Super Saiyan 4 Presents A Problem To Dragon Ball's Canon
As cool as Super Saiyan 4 Goku is, especially when Goku uses it as an adult, its existence still presents a problem. Dragon Ball Daima is supposed to take place a few years before Dragon Ball Super, yet Goku never once uses Super Saiyan 4 in Super, with Super Saiyan 3 even being framed as his strongest form in his fight with Beerus. Super Saiyan 4 being canon, as great as that is to see, nonetheless creates a clear continuity error with Dragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball Daima is running out of time to rectify it.
That being said, the issue of Super Saiyan 4’s place in canon is easy enough to resolve. Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball Daima has a magical origin with Goku obtaining it after Neva cast a spell on him, so Dragon Ball can explain Goku not using Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball Super by saying that it only works when magic is involved. Dragon Ball Daima only has a single episode left, and hopefully, it will find a logical way to justify Super Saiyan 4’s presence after going through all the trouble of making something so iconic canon.
Dragon Ball Daima releases new episodes Fridays on Crunchyroll.
