Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima episode #18returned Super Saiyan 4 to canon status. Dragon Ball GT's most iconic contribution to the franchise was replaced during the series' 2010s revival, which introduced Super Saiyan God and replaced GT in the canon timeline with 2015's Dragon Ball Super. Nearly 30 years after its initial appearance, however, Super Saiyan 4 has returned with a stylish redesign in Daima.
Though its inclusion in Dragon Ball's latest anime adventure is cause for celebration from fans, it didn't take long for Goku to lose the upper hand in his battle with Gomah, even while using his new form. The evil ruler of the Demon Realm acquired the mysteriously powerful Third Eye only episodes ago, and it has transformed him into a fighter more fearsome than any Goku has seen to this point. Now, he's confirmed to be even stronger than a Super Saiyan 4.
Gomah Overpowers Super Saiyan 4 Goku
The Evil King Is a More Fearsome Opponent than Anyone Expected
When Gomah was initially introduced in Dragon Ball Daima, his appearance wasn't very threatening. Shin briefly mentioned that he had powerful magic abilities, though it was clear the ruler was terrified of potentially having to fight Earth's heroes. However, with the Third Eye now planted in his forehead, Gomah has grown several times his normal size and gained immense strength, resembling Jiren somewhat in appearance. He quickly disposed of Super Saiyan 3 Goku in the latest episode, before Neva unlocked the Super Saiyan 4 transformation.

it It, Dragon Ball's New Take on Super Saiyan 4 Is the Perfect Blend of GT and Super
Dragon Ball Daima episode #18 finally made Super Saiyan 4 canon, and the new take is a perfect fusion between Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super.
From that point on, Goku had a decisive edge in their battle, quickly overpowering Gomah. However, because the Third Eye just continuously powered up the king every time Goku landed a blow, he quickly evened the playing ground before gaining the upper hand in their battle once more. Even with Super Saiyan 4, Goku has fallen behind once again, and Earth's heroes must find another way to secure victory. Luckily for them, there is a technique that might help their cause, and Daima has hinted towards it from the start.
A Super Saiyan 4 Fusion Might Be the Only Way to Stop Gomah
Daima Has Hinted at Fusion Throughout the Series
Though Gomah may be stronger than a Super Saiyan 4, there's no telling how he might fare against two of them. Especially when their power isn't just combined but extensively multiplied. Dragon Ball Daima has hinted at fusion since its earliest episodes, and with no other options left, it may be time for a fused fighter to arrive. At the current point in the timeline, Vegeta is unaware of how the fusion dance works, leaving either Vegito or a new fusion using the Bugs as the only two possibilities.
If Neva can unlock the anime's shiny new transformation for Vegeta as well, fans might just be treated to Vegito's first Super Saiyan 4 appearance. Dragon Ball Daima is approaching its finale, and the fight ahead will undoubtedly be a challenge for Goku and company. Super Saiyan 4 wasn't enough for the leading Saiyan to take the upper-hand, though Gomah surely won't stand a chance against a Super Saiyan 4 fusion.

Dragon Ball DAIMA is the fifth overall series in the action-adventure anime franchise. It features most of the classic cast as de-aged versions of themselves, including Goku, Vegeta, and Bulma. The series was announced at NYCC 2023, with creator Akira Toriyama returning to handle DAIMA's run.
