Despite the fact that Dragon Ball’s greatest hero.

Gotenks is the fusion of Goten and Trunks by way of the Fusion Dance. In the events leading up to the Majin Buu Saga, Goten and Trunks exhibited incredible abilities that far exceeded normal power levels for their age. Before either of them reached the age of ten, both were able to go Super Saiyan like it was nothing–something that was deemed ‘legendary’ and virtually unattainable during the events of the Frieza Saga. Given their baseline power levels, it was presumed that the fusion of Goten and Trunks would yield a warrior who was perhaps the strongest on Earth–and those who believed that weren’t far from the truth. After Goten and Trunks mastered the Fusion Dance and became Gotenks, he was able to unlock Super Saiyan 3 incredibly quickly–something that takes an enormous amount of power to achieve. However, even with all of that power, Gotenks still suffered from a few shortcomings, including one that was obviously ed down by Goku.

In Dragon Ball chapter 495 by Akira Toriyama, Gotenks is in the middle of his battle with Majin Buu after he became the only fighter left on Earth strong enough to stop him. At this point in the saga, Goku and Vegeta are dead and Gohan is presumed dead, meaning only Gotenks has a chance at defeating Majin Buu–and he’s actually doing a pretty good job. As previously stated, Gotenks was successful in reaching Super Saiyan 3, meaning his power level was far greater than that of Buu. However, after Gotenks unleashed a blast that seemingly obliterated Majin Buu, Gotenks did the worst thing one could ever do in a fighter: he let his guard down.

Goku Regularly Lets His Guard Down, & He ed that Trait to Gotenks

DBZ: Gotenks inherited Goku's worst trait.

Goku is notorious for letting his guard down in a fight, and most of the time, the consequences for that are dire. In fact, pretty recently before the events of this chapter when Goku was fighting Majin Vegeta, Goku let his guard down when he thought the battle was over and Vegeta knocked him out cold. Fast-forward to Goku’s battle with Frieza in Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ and Goku lets his guard down yet again rather than finishing Frieza off once and for all. This leads to Goku getting shot by one of Frieza’s henchmen, a wound that could have potentially cost Goku his life.

Goku has proven on numerous occasions throughout his Dragon Ball career that his greatest shortcoming as a fighter is the fact that he lets his guard down before the battle is really over, and in this chapter, it seems as though the ‘Goten side’ of Gotenks has inherited that terrible–and potentially fatal–trait.
