Red doors are everywhere in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, but you need to find a special item called the Thief's Key to open them. Those with the key to every red door can unlock various treasures, including rare gear and plenty of Gold. This elusive tool should be one of the first things your party tracks down when you start your adventure.

The Thief's Key is not just an exploration item, as it is also needed to progress the changed story of DQ3 Remake. When you arrive in the town of Reeve, you will be tasked with tracking down this item, but not given many clues about where it might be. By talking to the right people, you can gain some clues that will help you discover the Thief's Key's location.

Do not mistake the Thief's Key with the Magic Key, as the first opens red doors around the world while the latter opens blue doors locked in many different locations.

The first step to finding the Thief's Key starts when you go to the jail within Aliahan Castle. You can find this area in the southeast of the larger Castle, on the first floor of the structure, a place you can explore very early in your adventure. Once you've recruited some characters from PALS to put together your first party, this is a good area to investigate to start searching for the Key.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Review: A New Classic Of An Old Classic

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake successfully introduces a new generation to one of the best RPGs of all time, along with a host of improvements.

Here, you can speak to an NPC named Kirk Buzzer, who claims to be an infamous Thief. Apparently, Kirk once used the Thief's Key to loot the rooms behind red doors, but he lost the Thief's Key somewhere in a place called Dreamer's Tower. This monolith of stone isn't near Aliahan, so it's time for your party to gather their equipment and head out to the small village named Reeve.

How To Enter Dreamer's Tower

When you head to Reeve, your party can figure out that Dreamer's Tower is on a secluded island to the west. Unfortunately, at this point in the game, your team doesn't have access to a boat to traverse the ocean toward this isolated location. No Merchant or other class in DQ3 Remake can by this restriction, so you'll have to find another way to get to the Tower.

Head southwest until you find a cave outside of Reeve, then enter it to find your team in a mini-dungeon of sorts. This is Promontory age, a large interconnected series of subterranean tunnels that connect to several locations on your map, including Reeve and Aliahan Castle. This place also connects to Dreamer's Tower, allowing you to cross under the ocean to the island where it sits.

Promontory age is filled with plenty of enemies, so you may have to level up your party of various Vocations in DQ3 Remake before entering this area.

Once you get into Promontory age, open your map and look for the green mark in the area. This represents where this mini-dungeon transitions into Dreamer's Tower, so follow the main path until you find the exit at this spot. This path out of the caves may have you cross a couple of bridges, but a good way to where you're going is to keep taking routes that go up throughout this place.

Where To Get The Thief's Key In Dreamer's Tower

Leaving Promontory age will put you in Dreamer's Tower BF1, the first area of yet another mini-dungeon. Don't worry too much about exploring here, as you can always backtrack through other areas of the Tower once you get the Thief's Key. If your party is injured from facing enemies in the caves, head to the western section of the Tower to discover an Inn that will let your party fully heal.

Like some of the best JRPG games you can play, Dreamer's Tower is a multi-leveled building with plenty of encounters if you linger for too long. Head up the first set of stairs on the B1F of the Tower to enter the actual location. From here, head straight past the large statues, then turn right and go up the spiraling stairs to reach the Tower's second floor.

Fans of Akira Toriyama are paying homage to the late mangaka with an in-game vigil in a beloved Dragon Quest game, though it is not easily accessible.

On Dreamer's Tower F2, head south until you reach an outdoor balcony where you can see the sun shining. Travel left to the southwest corner of this floor to find a final flight of stairs leading up to the third floor. Go to the spiral staircase you can see on your map on this floor to ascend to the final area of this mini-dungeon.

At the top of Dreamer's Tower, you can find an old man sleeping at a desk. Talking to the man will cause your group to be gifted the Thief's Key, which you can immediately use to explore the rest of Dreamer's Tower. When you get the Thief's Key in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, you can unlock all the red doors in this area to gain plenty of great treasures to help your party continue its journey.
