The "Prey for the Pack" quest in Dragon's Dogma 2 is a mission you can only complete by saving a captured NPC within a certain amount of time. The game doesn't tell you this limitation, making it incredibly easy to fail as you may get distracted by other content in this massive RPG. Those looking to earn this quest's rewards successfully will have to stay focused to avoid failure.
Thankfully, you don't need to finish specific quests before "Prey for the Pack" to unlock it since it will appear without any prerequisite. Try to rest at a campsite with your party long before this quest activates, or you may risk taking too much time recuperating during the mission. Starting quests too early in Dragon's Dogma 2 can spell disaster, especially with this one's parameters.

Always Keep An Eye Out For This One Item While Exploring In Dragon’s Dogma 2
This one item is everywhere in Dragon's Dogma 2 and is surprisingly useful during a playthrough. Keep an eye out for it while exploring.
How To Unlock The "Prey for the Pack" Quest
Speak to Morris at Checkpoint Rest Town
Anyone can begin the "Prey for the Pack" quest when they talk to the character Morris at the Checkpoint Rest Town in the larger Vernworth region. This NPC has a shop near the back of the village, where he is asking any wandering traveler for help. Morris needs assistance to save his grandson Rodge from wolves who have taken him to a cave somewhere in the open world of Dragon's Dogma 2.
You can speak to a character named Lutz close to Morris' shop to learn more details about Rodge's abduction. Some villagers in town witnessed what happened to Rodge and know some extra details about Morris' grandson and his daily life. Head back to the entrance of the Checkpoint Rest Town with your Pawns in Dragon's Dogma 2 to pursue this clue as fast as possible.
Keep in mind that the moment you finish talking to Morris, the clock begins ticking for Rodge's survival, so pursue every clue you can without stopping to shop, fight monsters, or pursue other missions.
What Happened To Rodge?
Talk To Characters That Know Rodge
You can start finding out what happened to Rodge at the village entrance, where you talk to the villager Timothy and their two friends hanging out in the town square. As you can see in the above video by YouTube creator Quicksand Riggs, Timothy talked to Rodge before he was taken. According to him, Rodge was carrying a bundle of grass toward a "special location" outside the settlement.
Chat with some other characters in this area in front of town, specifically the NPCs Jacint and Alsa for a few more clues. Jacint will tell you how Rodge has a habit of collecting flowers, which would explain the "grass" Timothy mentioned earlier. Alsa talks about the flowers that grow around Checkpoint Rest Town in Dragon's Dogma 2 and how flowers Rodge may have harvested tend to glow blue in the dark.
Jancit also mentions how Rodge would tend to a flowerbed toward the outskirts of town, marking the area where Rodge was most likely attacked. This information should give you everything you need to start searching for Morris' grandson before it's too late.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Review: "A Wonderful Journey, & A True Novelty"
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is guaranteed to take you on a memorable and immersive adventure, but it’s liable to include a few hiccups along the way.
How To Find Rodge's Location
Search For The Glowing Flowers
You have to follow a path made by glowing blue flowerbeds beyond the town to track down where Rodge was taken in Dragon's Dogma 2. This is the trickiest part of the quest since you have to wait until night to be able to see the luminescent colors of flowers out in the wilderness. However, taking too much time and waiting until the sun sets could risk Rodge's demise to the wolves who have taken him.
Take the small window of opportunity you have at night to cross the bridge out of town and to the right path from where the road begins to fork into two separate routes. You don't have to unlock secret areas in Dragon's Dogma 2 to pursue this quest, but you do have to recognize landmarks in the world. Keep going down the right path until you reach a cave with scattered crates and barrels that lead to some nearby ruins.
Those who picked all the flowers from the glowing blue fields will have a much harder time finding the right path to Rodge. There should still be glowing blue particles from harvested plants in their usual spots, but they are difficult to detect.
The path from the ruins should lead to a castle tower past a bridge going across a small river of water. Eventually, this route will let you come across a campfire but don't rest with your party just yet as you continue your search. Find the closest source of blue flowers near a place called Putrid Cave, where Rodge is hiding from the wolves that you and your party can quickly defeat.
How To Complete The "Prey for the Pack" Quest
Reach Rodge Before It's Too Late
Taking down the wolves should be a small fight that's nothing like the larger monster fights against Griffons or the Red Dragon in Dragon's Dogma 2. However, if you fail to arrive at Putrid Cave on time, you will find Rodge dead and be unable to complete the quest. Discovering the lost grandson alive gives you a chance to escort him back to Checkpoint Rest Town to reunite him with his family.
Even though the immediate threat to Rodge's life has been defeated, you still need to defend him until you can get him back to Morris. Similar to your Pawns, Rodge's AI can run into various obstacles, including trees, rocks, or bodies of water. Keep checking on Rodge often to make sure he isn't risking his life by getting too close to a monster or near a cliff edge that could spell his death.
Returning Rodge to his grandfather or failing to protect him will still let you and your party earn 4,000 XP and complete the mission. Anyone who manages to bring Rodge back unharmed will also receive 2 Miracle Roborant and 11,000 Gold as their reward from Morris. The Roborant healing items will help you in future quests, especially ones where you and your party have to defeat larger bosses.
Failing to bring Rodge back alive will give you 8,000 Gold for the attempt, whether he dies before you can find him in Putrid Cave or along the road back to town. While you don't earn any Discipline Points for either outcome, completing the "Prey for the Pack" quest in Dragon's Dogma 2 will still give you good resources for your next adventure.
