Summary
- New game plus lets players restart Dragon's Dogma 2 with their current character.
- Levels, equipment, Vocation ranks, and more are carried over to new game plus, while certain items are lost.
- Players can explore obscure secrets and redo missed quests in Dragon's Dogma 2's new game plus.
After players beat Dragon's Dogma 2 with any ending, the main menu will present the opportunity to restart the playthrough with the same character, retaining most items and forms of progression. As with most games that have a new game plus system, however, not everything carries over, and players may want to carefully consider completing any unfinished content in the base game before starting a new playthrough. Especially in the case of Dragon's Dogma 2, the game's open-world nature and limited fast travel systems could complicate starting a new game plus playthrough.
As in the original Dragon's Dogma, and many other RPGs like Elden Ring, Dragon's Dogma 2 allows players to start over after beating the game, giving them the opportunity to find content they might have missed the first time around. Especially in DD2's case, the game's single-save nature and general lack of hand-holding when it comes to quests means that players could easily have failed certain quests, and can take a second chance to do them correctly. Available after beating the final boss of Dragon's Dogma 2, a repeat playthrough can help find many of the game's more obscure secrets.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Review: "A Wonderful Journey, & A True Novelty"
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is guaranteed to take you on a memorable and immersive adventure, but it’s liable to include a few hiccups along the way.
What Carries Over To New Game Plus In Dragon's Dogma 2
Character Progression & Most Items Carry Over
When starting new game plus in Dragon's Dogma 2, it's important to consider exactly what carries over from the original run through the game. As is explained in a tutorial popup for starting new game plus, players retain their character levels and Vocation ranks for the Arisen and the Main Pawn, as well as gold, Rift Crystals, unlocked skills, and most items. Unmentioned by the game, players also retain their map progress - any areas of the map that were uncovered in the original playthrough will remain visible in new game plus.
Although most items and unlocked skills do carry over, players won't be able to access them until they get past the introduction and are able to access their storage and Vocation menus at the Borderwatch Outpost inn - items have to be taken out of storage, and skills have to be reassigned before they can be used in new game plus.
Additionally, progress towards Seeker's Token rewards, as well as the benefits of consuming Golden Trove Beetles, carries over to a repeat playthrough, and any Tokens or Beetles already found by a player will not respawn in subsequent runs through the game. Any Portcrystals that the player has acquired will also be kept, but instead of staying in the location where they were set, they will instead be put in storage along with the rest of the player's inventory when starting a new game, and will have to be placed again at desired locations.

Starting This Dragon's Dogma 2 Quest Before You're Ready Could Ruin Your Entire Game
The point of no return comes pretty abruptly in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Here’s how to prepare for it, and everything players can expect to come after.
What Gets Lost When Moving To NG+ In Dragon's Dogma 2
Quest Progression, Quest Items, & Character Relationships Don't Carry Over
The few items that don't carry over to new game plus in Dragon's Dogma 2 are items specifically associated with quests - as quest progression is completely reset upon restarting the game, items used for progressing quests won't carry over either. Moreover, in addition to having to place portable Portcrystals again, the few set Portcrystals in the game, at locations like Vernworth and Harve, will have to be reactivated before they can be used for fast travel, and character affinity will also reset.
Additionally, any Pawns that were in the player's party, including the Main Pawn when ending the first playthrough, will no longer be present in new game plus, as the player will have to reach the Borderwatch Outpost Riftstone before they can summon Pawns again. If the player has made the Empowered Godsbane Blade needed to advance to Dragon's Dogma 2's true ending, it will carry over, but the main questline will still prompt them to craft another one, potentially leaving players with multiple copies of the item after a few playthroughs.
Starting new game plus after completing the standard ending locks players out of reaching the true ending, requiring the entire main questline to be completed again.
The new game plus system of Dragon's Dogma 2 mostly serves as a way to redo quests that the player might have missed the first time around, and provides an opportunity to retain the levels and skills gained on an initial playthrough. In a game with as many obscure secrets and quest solutions as Dragon's Dogma 2, a repeat playthrough can allow players to explore the world more thoroughly. As very little is lost upon moving to new game plus, most players should be safe to start a new Dragon's Dogma 2 playthrough as soon as they're able.
