Although rights must be resolved, dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden was cut from the Honor Among Thieves movie and the Paramount D&D TV series was scrapped, a Drizzt TV show would be a wise next move for the franchise. Not only is The Legend of Vox Machina proving the marketability of D&D TV, but Drizzt's cult following would ensure a loyal audience. However, the show should note one popular Hollywood tradition.

Created by R.A. Salvatore for 1988's The Crystal Shard, Drizzt Do'Urden and his two scimitars have seen more high fantasy action than most. Not just a book character, Drizzt is playable in the Dark Alliance video games and D&D 5e. To date, Drizzt has featured in 39 books and 13 series, plus three YA books that Salvatore co-wrote with his son, short stories, graphic novels, and more. D&D is missing a huge opportunity to not put this character on TV, especially when the fantasy genre has laid out a perfect blueprint for the narrative.

A Drizzt Adaptation Should Focus Drizzt’s Sprawling Relationship With Catti-Brie For Instant Fantasy Gold

Drizzt Do'Urden & Catti-Brie is A Key Relationship In The Legend Of Drizzt

Hollywood loves a romance hook for its fantasy stories, which can get boring and annoying, but a Drizzt Do'Urden TV show should draw out Drizzt's relationship with Catti-brie as a focal point. Across The Legend of Drizzt, Drizzt and Catti-brie's relationship is key to the narrative, often motivating Drizzt. The glacial pace of the relationship is also welcome, given the circumstances of the characters' meeting. However, this relationship should be focused, amplified, and made a key theme in a Drizzt show. That would bring continuity to disparate, varied books, making them the perfect basis for a TV show.

The Books Haven’t Fully Exploited Drizzt & Catti-Brie But A TV Show Is The Perfect Opportunity

Catti-brie's slow-burn romance with drow Drizzt Do'Urden is a beautiful facet of The Legend of Drizzt, but if any criticism could be leveled at it, it would be that it deserves more attention. There is a lot to unpack in a drow-human romance, with the related difficulties of age, race, and gender norms showing huge narrative potential. A TV show shouldn't shy away from any of this and should embrace this story for the huge modern relevance that it could have. Tactful screenwriting could take this romance off the back burner and make it something central and groundbreaking.

Focusing on Drizzt and Catti-brie would help explain how deeply Drizzt becomes the Hunter, motivated by protecting those he loves. This emotional background is key to all the impressive fight scenes and their overarching importance. TV is the perfect format to explore this; viewers could get on board with this romance on a whole new level with physical chemistry between two great actors. There is enough material in The Legend of Drizzt for a series of movies or a multi-season TV show. Dungeons & Dragons should exploit this goldmine, sensitively boosting Drizzt's core romance for guaranteed success.
