Paul Dano and Seth Rogen's 2023 dramedy Dumb Money has received renewed interest through its release on Netflix. The movie is inspired by the real-world case of Reddit s taking advantage of GameStop's fluctuating stock market value during the COVID-19 pandemic to make a profit. Dano portrayed Keith Gill, the financial analyst and investor who took notice of the shifting value, while Rogen took on the role of Melvin Capital Management founder Gabe Plotkin.
While Dumb Money was a box office bomb after only taking in $20.7 million on a budget of $30 million, the movie might have found a second chance through its Netflix streaming numbers. As reported by Netflix through their Global Top 10 list for the week of January 22 to January 28, the movie attracted an estimated 3.5 million views, allowing it to rank at No. 8. It pulled in 6.1 million hours viewed.

What's Next For Paul Dano & Seth Rogen After Dumb Money?
Though Dumb Money may not have proved successful financially, it was still positively received by audiences and critics, becoming another celebrated film for Dano following his work as The Riddler in The Batman and Burt Fabelman in The Fablemans in 2022. The actor's next role is in Johan Renck's sci-fi drama Spaceman, where he provides the voice of Hanus, a large arachnid extraterrestrial. Dano is also set to make a guest appearance in an undisclosed role in Prime Video's reimagining of Mr. & Mrs. Smith alongside Donald Glover and Maya Erskine .
Meanwhile, Dano's Dumb Money co-star Rogen is set to reprise two of his previous voice roles in Kung Fu Panda 4 and Mufasa: The Lion King. Continuing with animation, he is developing several TV projects, including a Darkwing Duck remake and a TV spin-off of 2016's Sausage Party. Rogen also served as a producer on Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman's recent black comedy Miller's Girl.
With the GameStop Reddit saga capturing headlines, it was a bit of a surprise that Dumb Money fell behind at the box office. This is especially true when considering its talented cast, which also included America Ferrera, Pete Davidson, Sebastian Stan, and Nick Offerman. However, with Dumb Money finding new success on Netflix, it seems the acclaimed but underperforming movie is being redeemed.
Dumb Money is currently streaming on Netflix.
