4 Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen

Killed by Paul Atreides

Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in Dune Part 2

Feyd-Rautha's death is positioned as the final stage of the Atreides' revenge against those who brought down their house.

The last big death in Paul and Feyd-Rautha's fight deciding the future of the empire. The final battle of Dune: Part Two, Feyd-Rautha and Paul's fight is an intense one that serves as the ultimate villainous showcase for Feyd-Rautha, who is portrayed as an almost cartoonishly evil figure in the film.

Despite delivering a harsh blow to Paul, Feyd-Rautha is stabbed and mortally wounded, dying in his cousin's arms. Feyd-Rautha's death is positioned as the final stage of the Atreides' revenge against those who brought down their house. Feyd-Rautha's demise also gains a surprisingly bittersweet edge, despite Feyd-Rautha's disdainful actions and personality. The reveal that he's technically Paul's cousin means that the film's hero is forced to slay one of his few remaining relatives, and Feyd-Rautha's death highlights how Paul has chosen to accept his destiny, regardless of the pain or cost.

3 Glossu Rabban Harkonnen

Killed by Gurney Halleck

Glossu Rabban Harkonnen (Dave Bautista) in his armor in Dune 2021

Glossu Rabban was never the most dangerous of the Harkonnen, but his brutal attempts to control Arrakis only helped spur the fall of his House.

Glossu Rabban Harkonnen doesn't have a good time in Dune: Part Two. His repeated failures to crush the Fremen end with him being relegated to the sidelines. Glossu tries to escape the film's bloody climax by abandoning his family to their fates. However, he's found by Gurney Halleck and promptly dispatched after a short fight. Glossu's death is sudden and brutal, which is particularly fitting given the character's role and impact on the story. Glossu Rabban was never the most dangerous of the Harkonnen, but his brutal attempts to control Arrakis only helped spur the fall of his House.

Glossu is portrayed in the film as a heartless fighter, but one who lacks the ambition of his uncle or the commitment of his brother. As a result, Glossu's death is treated as a far more simple thing. There's no honorable duel that at least allows him to die with some semblance of honor, as his attempt to combat Gurney just gets him killed as suddenly as any of the unfortunate souls caught off-guard by Harkonnen's rage. It's a quick and harsh death that highlights how much of an afterthought Glossu really was in the grand scheme of things despite his self-insertions and lust for power.

2 Baron Vladimir Harkonnen

Killed by Paul Atreides

The Baron's attempts to turn the situation on Arrakis to his advantage only get him seriously injured by the Emperor's forces and ultimately slain by Paul.

The leader of the Harkonnen House and the principal villain of 2021's Dune, the Baron remains an ever-present threat in Dune: Part Two. However, he's a less vital villain for the new film, as his nephews take center-stage while his own machinations are revealed to be mere cogs in the plans of the Emperor and the Bene Gesserit faith. The Baron's attempts to turn the situation on Arrakis to his advantage only get him seriously injured by the Emperor's forces and ultimately slain by Paul, who fatally stabs his grandfather in the throat after acknowledging their connection.

Vladimir's ambitions to place a relative on the throne succeed, as Paul soon ascends to the role of Emperor. He is one of the Dune franchise's biggest villains, and his death serves as a major piece of Paul's journey and rise to power. Although it is Anya Taylor-Joy's Alia Atreides who kills him in the book, killing Vladimir ensures that Paul achieves his revenge for the fate of his father. Vladimir's death feels rewarding for accomplishing Paul's drive for vengeance. However, it's also one of the last acts Paul seems to take of his own, playing into the film's themes around destiny and death.

1 Shishakli

Killed by Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen

Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli in Dune 2

Shishakli's death is a tragic one, especially given how she came to represent the doubters turned allies within the Fremen community.

Shishakli is one of the Fremen that Paul encounters during his time with their people. Portrayed as a friend and companion to Chani, Shishakli initially distrusts Paul and sees him as a problem. However, she comes to see the young man as a friend. This loyalty to her people ends up costing her, as she's caught when the forces of House Harkonnen reach the Fremen holy site known as Sietch Tabr. Resisting interrogation after bringing down almost a dozen soldiers, Shishakli is killed by Feyd-Rauth when he gleefully uses a flamethrower against her. This in part forces Paul to lead the remaining Fremen to the south of Arrakis.

Shishakli's death is a tragic one, especially given how she came to represent the doubters turned allies within the Fremen community. Although she initially dismissed Paul and was frustrated by the more fundamental beliefs of Stilgar, she remained a heroic character until the end. Shishakli does not play into the overarching conflict between galactic houses, but highlights the average soldier who will be forced to lay their lives on the line as part of the resulting universe-spanning war. Her death might be minor in the grand scheme of things, but it plays into the tragic themes of Dune: Part Two and shows how much faith Paul has evoked.
