Actor Timotheé Chalamet says that working with Zendaya on Dune was one of his favorite parts of making the movie, amongst other things. Chalamet stars at Paul Atreides, the lead character in Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune, set for release next month. The actor is ed by a massive cast, including Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, and Javier Bardem.
Based on Herbert's novel, Dune centers on House Atreides' struggle to maintain the planet Arrakis, aka Dune, the only known location of a spice called Melange, which is the most sought-after compound in the universe. The prior stewards of the planet, House Harkonnen, fight to maintain control, leading to war between the two houses and a struggle that will change the galaxy forever. David Lynch first adapted Dune in 1984, and a SyFy channel adaptation and follow-up sequels were made in the early 2000s.
Talking to Deadline, Chalamet raved about working on the film, especially with his fellow cast. Working with Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, and Charlotte Rampling brought "moments of glee." While working with those actors was special, Chalamet says that working with Zendaya was "a total breath of fresh air" and one of his favorite parts of the movie. Although Zendaya's part isn't as prominent in the first half of Dune, it's still a pivotal role that transforms the story, especially for the book's second half. Here's what Chalamet had to say:
And then there are the moments of glee that come, too, like seeing Jason Momoa running at you at a hundred miles an hour, or just getting to shoot the shit with Josh Brolin, or getting to do a scene with Oscar Isaac. I felt so ed, whether it was Rebecca Ferguson or Charlotte Rampling. When Zendaya came, it was a total breath of fresh air, and she’s one of my favorite parts of the movie. I just got really lucky, and I can’t wait to see them all in Venice.
Zendaya's role as Chani, a member of the Fremen tribe, which lives on the planet Arrakis, is instrumental in Paul Atreides' journey and her people's. It's expected that Chani will play an Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is her third appearance in the MCU.
Chalamet and Zendaya feel like a perfect match of young Hollywood come together, so it's no surprise that he would be so enamored of the experience working with her. Both He and Zendaya have continued to show their skill as actors, taking on a wide range of projects that highlight their ability to carry the next generation of Hollywood, and Dune is sure to be another notch in their career-best. Chalamet next appears in Adam McKay's the famed Willy Wonka for Wonka.
