Dungeons and Dragons is entering into uncharted territory with their newest adventure, which will allow players to battle bizarre new enemies such as undead dinosaurs. Details of the new campaign were announced during Wizards of the Coast's two-day live event, Stream of Annihilation. Described by lead designer Mike Mearls as "Indiana Jones meets zombies," Tomb of Annihilation will send players to a jungle region on the southern continent of Chult, a place that exists in the Forgotten Realms. The player's quest will be to find a magical artifact with the purpose of stopping a curse.

This curse is a "wasting disease" that affects everyone who's ever been brought back to life. Players of D&D campaigns and video games like Baldur's Gate know that resurrection is a common practice in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. Priests can easily cast spells that restore the dead to life. However, this curse in Tomb of Annihilation will slowly send the resurrected back to their graves. The curse is afflicting the people of the city Port Nyanzaru, but could expand to the rest of the world. This is why the player must find the Soulmonger, a necromantic artifact that is said to be the cause of the catastrophic death curse.

Like Indiana Jones, the player will have to navigate through a dangerous environment made up of mountains, volcanoes, and rainforests. Along the way, they'll have to contend with dinosaurs and undead. To make matters worse, players will be faced with undead dinosaurs. Classic enemies like the snake-like humanoids known as the Yuan-Ti will also appear.

The new campaign is designed for players from Level 1 to Level 11. For players looking for an even greater challenge, Tomb of Annihilation will feature a new difficulty called "Meatgrinder Mode." The region of Chult will offer players tons of new opportunities, including a chance to participate in dinosaur races. The campaign is also expected to provide players with a "sandbox" experience, putting the focus on exploration over combat. Emmy Award-winning writer and creator of Adventure TimePendleton Ward helped create Tomb of Annihilation.

Tomb of Annihilation will also receive a video game adaption through the Dungeons and Dragons MMORPG, Neverwinter, in the form of a DLC pack. The new DLC will add Port Nyanzuru as well as the trap-filled dungeon, Tomb of the Nine Gods. The DLC will release on Playstation 4 and Xbox One on July 25.

Tomb of Annihilation becomes available on September 19, priced at $49.99.
