Warning! Spoilers for Doctor Aphra #10 and War of the Bounty Hunters #1 ahead!
The coolest bounty hunter from the Doctor Aphra comic series that leads into the War of the Bounty Hunters event.
The episodes of Clone Wars featuring Durge are among the most memorable of the entire series. Durge is comprised of tentacle-like tendrils that allow him to regenerate and alter his size. He is nearly indestructible as he takes out Clone Troopers with ease while riding on a swoop bike and brandishing medieval-style weapons like a lance and a flail. He is eventually defeated when he swallows Obi-Wan Kenobi and explodes when the Jedi Master bursts out of him. After later Legends stories revealed that he survived, it was established that Durge had an intense hatred of Mandalorians, and that he had failed in an attempt to kill a young Boba Fett.
Durge might get his chance to kill the infamous bounty hunter in the Star Wars crossover event War of the Bounty Hunters, in which the hunt for Han Solo is on after his frozen carbonite body is stolen from Fett before he can deliver it to Jabba the Hutt. At the end of Doctor Aphra #10 by Alyssa Wong, Ray-Anthony Height, Victor Olazaba, Joe Caramagna and Rachelle Rosenberg, the titular doctor and her companion Sana Starros are dispatched by their employer Domina Tagge to locate her cousin, an arms smuggler. The cousin, Ebann Drake, says he has been invited to take part in an incredible opportunity, and Aphra and Sana are sent to find out what that opportunity is. As the two fly off on their mission, readers see that Durge appears to be converging on the same path.
The invitation is likely the one sent out by Crimson Dawn in War of the Bounty Hunters #1 by Charles Soule, Luke Ross, Neeraj Menon and Travis Lanham. Crimson Dawn is in possession of Han’s body, and has invited representatives from the galaxy’s great powers to a celebration on Jekara. After learning of the invitation, Boba Fett sets off to Jekara to retrieve his bounty. What he is not anticipating is a possible confrontation with Durge. Previews for future issues in the War of the Bounty Hunters event have revealed that Aphra will encounter Durge, and that she and Fett will find themselves teaming up.
Durge’s last appearance in the Legends stories was in the Star Wars: Obsession series, where he was killed by Anakin Skywalker. Darth Vader will be a major player in the War of the Bounty Hunters as well, but it is unknown if he has had any previous encounters with Durge in the current continuity. It has also not been revealed how much he has with Boba Fett, if any. But one this if for certain, and that is that Durge is going to be a very formidable opponent in the War of the Bounty Hunters.
