Cheryl Burke wants to judge Dancing With The Stars once she retires from the ABC competition show. The dancing pro has been competing on Dancing With The Stars since season 2 in 2006. Though she has taken a few seasons off over the years, she has competed in 24 out of the 30 seasons. Cheryl has successfully won two Mirror Ball trophies, with an opportunity to win a third this season as she and her celebrity partner and beloved Peloton instructor Cody Rigsby have made it to the finals. With the last week of the competition underway, there have been many rumors swirling around that Cheryl will retire after this season regardless of the results. The dancing pro put the rumors to an end itting that she'll likely return for one more season due to contractual obligations.

With so many seasons under her belt, Cheryl never expected to still experience new twists that would challenge her as a pro dancer, but this milestone season left her in a unique position. In the first few weeks of competing, Cheryl tested positive for COVID-19. The shocking news left producers scrambling for a way to keep the couple in the competition without risking the health of others involved in the show. Ultimately, the judges critiqued their never before seen rehearsal footage, and the couple made it through another week. In a series of unfortunate events, Cody then tested positive for COVID-19, leaving the couple to learn, rehearse and perform in over Zoom in their own living rooms.

In a new interview with Cheryl feels as though her longterm knowledge in the show's inner workings could be beneficial to a lot of couples, especially the ones with newer pros.

If Cheryl's wish was granted and she stepped into a judge or mentor position, she wants to use her newfound power to push the show back to the roots of ballroom dancing. "I honestly prefer not so many themed nights," Cheryl said. "I miss ballroom dancing. I miss the old school Michael Bublé music and dancing to [the music] you should be dancing to when doing the Foxtrot." While Cheryl loved honoring Janet Jackson this season, she felt like the show hits home more efficiently when the celebrity has the freedom to dance to the music that both respects the sport and reflects their personality and story. For example, Rob Kardashian once danced to his late father's favorite Frank Sinatra track to create "a beautiful moment" that viewers connected with.

With Derek Hough's new seat at the judges , the table is a little packed so Cheryl's idea of becoming a mentor seems like a wonderful addition. More times than not the new pros go home in the earlier weeks. It might be refreshing for these new pros to get the advice they need to go further in the competition so Dancing With The Stars viewers can see new faces and fresh routines week after week.
