Dying Light 2 developer Techland recently responded to one of the game's more common glitches, though unfortunately, not many fans are finding the response very helpful. The open-world post-apocalypse adventure was released earlier this month to a mostly positive reception, although concerns have been raised over the game's bugs and performance issues, particularly on consoles.
Techland's return to the world of Dying Light has been highly anticipated by fans of the cult-classic 2015 game since its announcement a few years ago. The original Dying Light was heavily praised for its meticulously detailed world and atmosphere, but mainly for its advanced movement mechanics and moment-to-moment gameplay. While most players have been happy to report that these positive qualities have returned better than ever, things aren't going as smoothly when it comes to the game's technical state. One of the more worrisome and frustrating glitches that players are dealing with has been called the "death loop" bug, which causes players to get stuck in an endless loop upon dying during certain missions. What's worse is the fact that, at the time of writing, there is no reliable workaround or remedy available.
At the very least, players can be assured that Techland is aware of this issue, along with the other Dying Light glitches. A Tweet from the official Dying Light Twitter acknowledges this widespread issue while itting its severity. A picture accompanying the Tweet goes into more depth about what has been done regarding this issue, specifically pointing out that a recent patch prevented the instance from occurring, although this patch did little to help players who had already encountered the glitch. Other than that, the post asks any players stuck as a result of this glitch to remain patient while the team works on a fix. Unsurprisingly, this is not satisfying for many fans affected by this issue.
The death loop glitch, along with Dying Light 2's other technical shortcomings, is emblematic of a larger trend within gaming. It is not at all uncommon for big, AAA games to launch with a host of glitches and performance pitfalls these days, and it seems like a lot of gamers are beginning to accept this as a reality. As games get more advanced, problematic launches like this one will likely remain somewhat common.
Having said that, it is interesting to see how the gaming community is responding to Dying Light 2's glitches. Compared to teams behind other major gaming blunders like Cyberpunk 2077, Techland is significantly smaller, with access to fewer resources. Even still, players do not seem to be giving Techland any slack when it comes to addressing these issues.
Dying Light 2 is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
