Developer Techland has released a special gamescom 2021 episode of Dying 2 Know, teasing more of the open world and the massive arsenal of weapons in Dying Light 2. Today's episode marks the third of Techland's ongoing dev diary series for the sequel, the first of which went live several months ago in late May.

Dying 2 Know Episode 1, specifically, outlined Dying Light 2's branching storyline, with Game Designer Michał Dudziak explaining the three layers upon which each player choice is based. Decisions capable of impacting main story missions and the ending constitute one such layer; the City Alignment System that revolves around faction-specific choices serves as another. The second episode of the web series went live on July 1, boasting a five-minute gameplay trailer that offered a much closer look at the monsters prowling the world of Dying Light's forthcoming follow-up.

With gamescom 2021 underway, Techland unleashed a third Dying 2 Know segment offering fresh details about exploration and weapons. Both pillars of gameplay were integral to the experience in the original Dying Light. Suffice it to stay, they'll prove equally critical to the way in which players navigate the sequel's apocalyptic landscape. Near the start of the episode, Senior Game Programmer Kaer Kowalczuk noted that refined parkour mechanics will allow players to seamlessly traverse even the tallest buildings, opening up the world fairly quickly. Later in the video, Producer Szymon Strauss revealed Dying Light 2 will feature "nearly 200 weapons," some more rudimentary than others. But fans needn't worry, complex tools of destruction like the semi-automatic crossbow have also been confirmed.

Techland has gone out of its way to expand upon what players loved about the original 2015 entry. And what's been showcased, thus far, suggests the crew's efforts may indeed pay off in the long run. Fans won't be able to confirm as much for themselves until later in the year, though.

The studio announced the new installment during E3 2018, promising an experience far grander in scope than its predecessor. Though the sequel initially boasted a 2020 launch window, developmental woes forced Techland to delay the project. Dying Light 2 now appears as though it will hit the targeted release date, which lands at the end of this year.
