A new video of Dying Light sequel is nearly upon us, nearly four years after its initial announcement during E3 2018. Throughout the lengthy preview period, we'll call it, one thing about the project has remained crystal clear - Dying Light 2 serves as a far more ambitious endeavor than its antecedent.
Developer and publisher Techland's ambitions for the title became a point of contention just a couple of weeks ago when the game's official Twitter page promised players 500 hours of content for a 100 percent completionist playthrough. The studio had to issue no less than two clarifications about the statement shortly thereafter, reassuring fans that 80-plus hours would clear all of the story and side quests, while only 20 or so would wrap up the main narrative arc. But how well will Dying Light 2 perform on current-gen hardware during its hundreds of hours of playtime? Players can expect to have some control over the performance capabilities across three different modes.
In conjunction with PlayStation, Techland has unleashed a new gameplay video for Dying Light 2: Stay Human, highlighting the game's three performance modes on current-gen platforms. The three modes include Resolution, Quality, and Performance, with the former favoring beautiful 4K visuals over all else. Meanwhile, Quality Mode boasts ray-traced visuals and Performance emphasizes 60-plus frames per second. Take a look at all three of Dying Light 2's modes running on PS5 in the video linked below:
Notably, the Dying Light 2 "Modes Presentation" fails to mention a few key details. It's unclear what framerate the Quality mode will offer to players who want ray-traced lighting, for instance. The resolution of the 60-plus FPS Performance mode has also yet to receive clarification. Given the imminence of the sequel's release, such information should begin making the rounds sooner rather than later.
Dying Light 2 follows Aiden Caldwell, a wandering survivor whose decisions could alter the fate of The City. As one of the last major human settlements of consequence, The City, in many respects, constitutes a bastion of hope. Things are not going well, though, due to ongoing conflict that threatens to tear apart the few remains of civilization piece by piece. To the delight of many, players will get to explore all of this and more in just a matter of weeks.
Dying Light 2: Stay Human hits PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms on February 4.
