Square Enix has previously teamed with Marvel and Crystal Dynamics to create working on a new Marvel property.

Marvel Entertainment has trusted the developer with the incredibly popular comic book company's best characters which means Square Enix will have a lot to live up to. The trailers and gameplay footage have already revealed some of the heroes and villains included in the project.

Star-Lord

While it may be a little shocking to fans of the franchise, the Square Enix title As the Guardian's leader, players will be responsible for keeping the team in check, asg them tasks, and making tough decisions.

Since Star-Lord is playable that also means that audiences get a chance to play around with his state-of-the-art technology. His impressive gear and helmet, his rocket boosters, and space guns will all be available to use in battle. Plus, he even has a Sony Walkman to play throwback tunes in the heat of war.

Gamora

Marvel Guardians Galaxy Game Gamora Drax Discussion

Both the comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe have created a complex backstory for the assassin Gamora. As the adopted daughter of the Mad Titan Thanos, Gamora's species were largely wiped out and her family was murdered. She's brought up learning to be a cold-hearted killer.

Her rivalry with her sister Nebula is also an important aspect of the character's arc, but it's unclear if the mechanical menace is present in the Guardians Of The Galaxy game at this current point in time. Gamora looks to be the second in command though, as one of the most experienced of the team.

Rocket Raccoon

Not a lot really makes sense about a talking space Raccoon, but what Rocket may lack in clarity he more than makes up for in explosives, dry wit, and cosmic military-grade weapons. Rocket Raccoon is a vital member of the team who has had to deal with his own tragic backstory.

As a mutant science experiment, Rocket has a real chip on his shoulder. He has found a makeshift family with the Guardians though and players will no doubt experience both his sarcastic humor and his penchant for blowing things up first hand. Plus he sports a new look in regards to his facial hair.

Groot

Who is Rocket if Groot isn't by his side? A talking tree and the Raccoon's best friend in the universe, Groot has become one of the most beloved of the franchise. Full of rage but consistently showcasing a softer side, there's an innocence to Groot which is beautiful to watch.

His gentle personality can be overshadowed by his viciousness in battle and there's no doubt that Square Enix has enjoyed playing around with these shifts in character. While Baby Groot hasn't yet been confirmed for the title, it would seem like a missed opportunity if he doesn't appear in some form.

Drax The Destroyer

Drax the Destroyer has surprisingly turned out to be some brilliant comic relief in the MCU, but his origins shouldn't be overlooked. The heartbreaking tale of how he lost his family to Thanos and his forces continues to haunt the war-weary warrior.

With a more comic-accurate look, Square Enix looks to imbue their version of Drax with the same amount of emotional complexity and literal humor as the movies have managed to portray. As the tank of the group, players will certainly be relying on Drax to clear out any cosmic thugs in their path.

Mantis

Mantis meeting Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy Game

In the MCU, Mantis was a slightly later addition to the Guardians, although she has been involved with the team for many years in the comics. For Square Enix's take on the squad, Mantis looks to be a ing player rather than on the Guardian's roster.

Sporting a similar look to the big screen rather than the comics, Mantis' recognizable antennae are on full display. Able to both understand and control other people's emotions, Mantis might be brought in at a crucial time where some team conflicts must be resolved.

The Nova Corps

The Guardians in custody of the Nova Corps in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

While not an individual character, the trailer clearly confirms that the Nova Corps will have a remarkable presence in the Guardians title. As the Police Force of space, there's no doubt that the Nova Corps will be keeping an eye on the Guardians and perhaps even enlisting their help.

The existence of the Nova Corps in this gaming universe would suggest that Nova himself could be out there somewhere. Again, he's not in any of the gameplay or trailers for the project, but that doesn't mean he won't be a surprise addition somewhere in the campaign.

Cosmo The Spacedog

Cosmo the spacedog in his astronaut gearin Guardians of the galaxy Game

Cosmo The Spacedog has made a few cameos in the MCU but has a far larger role to play in the comics. As part of a Russian experiment to send a dog to space, Cosmo has not only developed incredible intelligence but also has the technology needed to speak.

He has always been a great ally to the Guardians Of The Galaxy and looks to be playing a similar ing role here. Much like in the comics and on the big screen, Cosmo is decked out in his astronaut gear, complete with a sealed space helmet.

Lady Hellbender

Lady Hellbender confronting the Guardians in Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy

Square Enix is pulling from all corners of the Marvel Universe in order to create a great gameplay experience for fans. While all of the confirmed characters thus far have been well known to audiences, Lady Hellbender is a much deeper cut to draw from.

Marguerite Hellbender is a Seknarfian and is being presented as the main villain of the title. A lethal warrior in her own right, she has demonstrated both strength and durability in battle. She finds residence on Seknarf Nine, where she becomes a hunter of impressive prey and one of the planet's most dangerous citizens.

Blue Llama

The Guardians lined up with Groot holding a Blue Llama in the Guardians of the Galaxy game

There appears to be no comic book ties to this character, nor is there any clear indication as to why it's in the trailer, however, there are a number of shots that see Groot holding a blue Llama. Interestingly, the Llama also appears to have a red wig on.

This could be Groot's pet or perhaps a space creature that Lady Hellbender is hunting, but it's already caught the audience's attention. The Llama could certainly serve as a great mascot for the squad and would allow the video game Guardians to stand out compared to the MCU iteration.
