Players wishing to obtain the Golden Beast Crest Shield and the Ornamental Straight Sword in tutorial boss in Elden Ring may be happy to know there is another way to beat it more easily down the line.
The Golden Beast Crest Shield is a greatshield that is usually preferred by those with high Strength as it requires 24 in that attribute to be properly used. That being said, it is an excellent shield that provides a very solid defense by blocking 100% physical damage and halving all magic damage taken while blocking. Although greatshields tend to favor a less mobile playstyle, as players are instead encouraged to block to mitigate damage, the Golden Beast Crest Shield is very light when compared to others of its class giving players more flexibility when it comes to other gear.
The Ornamental Straight Sword is a very flexible weapon due to its compatibility with most Ashes of War in Elden Ring and its moveset that combines slashes and thrusts. It has a relatively low stat requirement, needing only 10 Strength and 14 Dexterity to be properly wielded, which coupled with a decent Dexterity scaling makes it a great candidate for Dex builds. This weapon can also be dual-wielded when two-handed, and its weapon skill, Golden Tempering, will transform its strong attack into a multi-hit combo that synergizes greatly with weapon buffs.
Unlocking The Golden Beast Shield & Ornamental Straight Sword in Elden Ring
The main way to obtain this sword and shield is also the most difficult as it requires players to beat the tutorial boss on their first try. However, there is a way for players to face this Grafted Scion later in the game, with the advantages of having leveled up as much as needed and having better equipment, making this boss fight in Elden Ring much easier. This method will also allow players to retry the boss as many times as it takes, giving them time to memorize attack patterns to find the best opportunities to strike. Whether players kill this boss on their first or tenth try, they will always acquire the Golden Beast Crest Shield, the Ornamental Straight Sword, and 3200 Runes.
Using this easier method will require players to acquire an Imbued Sword Key, a unique item that will open certain doors but be consumed in the process. If players head to the Four Belfries Site of Grace, they will find an altar with a chest containing one of these keys. After that, players can turn around and head towards the pillar down the hill to their left. Use the Imbued Sword Key on the small statue and use the gateway to be teleported to the Chapel of Anticipation, where players can find and face this optional Elden Ring boss as many times as it takes to kill it.
