With the official announcement of an undertaking for Garland, but there's a wealth of source material to draw from as a reference. Based on his past comments, he seems to be a major fan, so for now, there are some high hopes.

Elden Ring is packed full of unique and original characters, as players step into the Lands Between and are introduced to White Mask Varre, all the way up to the Tarnished's final epic showdown against Radagon. The enigmatic characters throughout the Lands Between are the biggest draw, delivering curiosity about the world and its mysteries. If the film adaptation of Elden Ring wishes to succeed, it needs to emulate those feelings in a similar way.

10 Blaidd The Half-Wolf

Ranni's Sworn Blade & A Faithful Companion

Blaidd the Half-Wolf is a fan favorite and one of the most iconic Elden Ring characters. Known for his stoicism and unwavering loyalty as a shadowbound beast and sworn blade to his step-sister, Ranni the Witch, Blaidd has no choice but to show unfaltering dedication to Ranni's desires. Tragically, the Two Fingers also installed a fail-safe in the event Ranni opposed the Greater Will, turning him into the Baleful Shadow that could threaten her very existence.

I've Spent Over 1200 Hours Playing Elden Ring, & I'm Completely Torn Over A Film Adaptation

I know I'm not the only one feeling ambivalent about the newly announced Elden Ring film adaptation, though I am hopeful it's a success.

3

Blaidd is introduced early in the game and quickly becomes a trusted ally during the Tarnished's journey into the beautiful underground dreamscape of Siofra River. The potential for him as a live-action character in the film is limitless, and he's one of the few characters I hope is not only featured but can be explored in great depth. A hyperrealistic and lifelike Blaidd would be a dream come true to most fans, assuming it's done well.

9 Patches The Untethered

Being Tricked By Patches Is A Quintessential Souls Experience

There can't be a proper Elden Ring adaptation without a cameo from the infamous Patches. There's only one character who has weaseled his way into nearly every Soulsborne game since the beginning, from Demon's Souls to Elden Ring, and I have a feeling he's going to find a way into the film somehow. Patches is a notoriously sneaky and conniving NPC that players run into in multiple places across Elden Ring's main story.

While it's highly unlikely, Patches would make an incredible protagonist, being a flawed hero with a big personality and questionable morals.

Fans of FromSoftware, the company behind Elden Ring and the Soulsborne genre writ large, will recognize Patches from earlier games such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne. He's always up to no good, and there's a good opportunity for the film to pay homage to FromSoftware with a character like Patches. While it's highly unlikely, Patches would make an incredible protagonist, being a flawed hero with a big personality and questionable morals.

8 Dung Eater, Scourge Upon The Living

A Vile Murderer Destined For Tragedy

The Dung Eater is a disgusting and fascinating character that plays a crucial role in the main story of Elden Ring, particularly in acquiring the Blessing of Despair ending. The Dung Eater is a serial killing maniac, driven into insanity by a vision he once had of a "pox upon life itself," which he believes he is destined to spread throughout the world by defiling corpses and spreading the Seedbed Curse, eventually cursing the entire world.

Dung Eater's armor was crafted to "represent both the guidance he once saw, and the ring to which it will one day lead."

Eventually, the Dung Eater was hanged for his crimes but was brought back as a Tarnished, which is where he is introduced in the game. If a player follows Dung Eater's questline through to the end, they learn that his interpretation of his vision was flawed, and the game (the Tarnished) is the one destined to curse the world, ergo the Blessing of Despair ending.

7 Fia, Deathbed Companion

Will We Descend Into The Deeproot Depths?

Fia the Deathbed Companion, an NPC found in Elden Ring.

Fia is yet another tragically beautiful character in Elden Ring that deserves a live-action depiction, and would arguably be one of the easiest to adapt. Her story, on the other hand, is incredibly complex and could fill an entire saga of its own. However, simply seeing Fia in ing would be enough to get most players more interested in the film.

Elden Ring: Why Fia Is Working For The Prince Of Death

Fia, Deathbed Companion, sides with Godwyn, Prince of Death, in Elden Ring to serve Those Who Live In Death in defiance of the Golden Order.

Fia is a beloved character with a fantastic backstory, and there is an entire ending dedicated to her storyline for a reason. It would also be amazing to see one of the main areas tied to her storyline, the Deeproot Depths and the Prince of Death's Throne. This area is a gargantuan cavern in the roots of the Erdtree, which is swarming with oversized ants, and it'd be a compelling environment to see depicted on screen.

6 Malenia, Blade Of Miquella & Goddess Of Rot

The Most Infamous Boss From Elden Ring

Malenia and her twin brother, Miquella, were cursed at birth, each left to suffer horrible fates. Malenia was nearly consumed by the Scarlet Rot, which consumed her body and left her permanently disfigured, including the loss of her eyes and sword arm. Her brother eventually found a way to stave off the Rot so it wouldn't take her entirely and even crafted her a prosthetic arm to allow her to continue serving as his protector.

Malenia is the undisputed hardest boss in Elden Ring, but her character design and attack animations are also incredibly visually stunning, particularly when she enters the Goddess of Rot phase. Malenia and Miquella would both be ideal characters for a film adaptation, not simply because of their esthetics, but because their story is among the most intricate and important in the game.

5 Starscourge Radahn

A Fearsome Warrior Roaming The Wailing Dunes Of Caelid

Starscourge Radahn is a legendary boss in Elden Ring and one of the most imposing figures among the demigods. Known for his unmatched skill in battle and mastery of gravitational sorcery, he halted the stars themselves through sheer force of will. Radahn rides a small steed into war, which would be somewhat hilarious to see, but Radahn's gravity magic and massive stature are the real reasons to include him in an adaptation.

Radahn had been so consumed by the Rot that he was left to roam the Wailing Dunes of Caelid for eternity.

Radahn's half-brother, the same Miquella as above, takes the Starscourge on as his consort. Eventually, by the end of The Shattering and a massive war between factions that left everyone dead except Radahn and his half-sister, Malenia, Radahn had been so consumed by the Rot that he was left to roam the Wailing Dunes of Caelid for eternity. The Tarnished finds him there to take him down and end his suffering during the infamous Radahn Festival.

4 Mohg, Lord Of Blood & Morgott, The Omen King

Twin Omen Brothers On Divergent Paths

Mohg and Morgott are twin Omen brothers, cursed from birth with monstrous features that mark them as outcasts. Despite their shared origins, their paths diverge drastically. Morgott, the self-proclaimed “Last of All Kings,” fights to uphold the Golden Order, though he is shunned by it. Noble yet tragic, he guards Leyndell with fierce devotion.

What Happens To Mohg In Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree

Elden Ring paints Mohg as a villain for taking Miquella, but the events and revelations in Shadow of the Erdtree show that he’s more of a victim.

Mohg, in contrast, embraces darkness and blood, becoming the Lord of Blood and seeking to raise the Formless Mother’s dynasty through the demigod Miquella. While Morgott clings to rejected duty, Mohg revels in rebellion, creating a bloody hellscape of a kingdom beneath the Lands Between. The brothers represent two sides of the Omen condition, and their stories reflect the themes of abandonment, identity, and power, making them among the most compelling and sorrowful figures in the game’s dark mythos.

3 Melina, The Maiden

The Tarnished's Guide Through The Lands Between

Melina is a mysterious and iconic character in Elden Ring who serves as the player’s guide and ally throughout the journey across the Lands Between. She's one of the first major characters, offering the ability to level up in exchange for runes. Bound by a pact, she acts as a Maiden to aid the "maidenless" Tarnished.

Perhaps the most tragic ending in Elden Ring is one where the Tarnished embraces the Frenzied Flame, causing Melina to fail at fulfilling her purpose.

Melina seeks to fulfill her purpose, which is tied to reaching the Erdtree and finding the meaning behind her existence. She is calm, enigmatic, and driven by duty, gradually revealing fragments of her past and motivations. Her fate is deeply intertwined with the game's major endings, particularly the choice to burn the Erdtree. Melina’s story blends sorrow, sacrifice, and loyalty, making her one of the game’s most compelling and emotionally resonant characters, shaping the Tarnished’s path and the ultimate fate of the Lands Between.

2 Iron Fist Alexander, The Warrior Jar

A Big Jar With A Quirky Personality

Iron Fist Alexander is a brave and honorable warrior jar in Elden Ring, driven by a deep desire to grow stronger through battle. Despite his unusual, pot-like form, Alexander is fiercely proud and deeply values courage and strength. The Tarnished first meets him when he's stuck on the ground, asking for help, which reveals his humble and friendly nature and quirky personality.

Inspired by great heroes, he journeys across the Lands Between seeking worthy challenges to refine his combat prowess. Alexander’s determination leads him to key battles and alliances, including aiding the Tarnished in significant fights. Ultimately, he requests a final duel to test his strength, sealing his legacy as a noble warrior. His story blends humor, heart, and heroism in equal measure.

1 Ranni The Witch

Arguably The Most Visually Stunning Character In Elden Ring

Ranni the Witch is a mysterious demigod who weaves fate with cold ambition and has a deep connection to many of the main characters and bosses in the game. Cloaked in blue and speaking through a doll, she rejects the Greater Will’s influence. Her quest reveals deep secrets, tragic legacies, and the stars' lost guidance, birthing a new age. She's perhaps the most memorable character in the game, and her inclusion in the film would be a sight to behold.

If You Thought You Could Avoid Scarlet Rot In Elden Ring Nightreign, I've Got Bad News For You

Elden Ring Nightreign's overview trailer gives us a glimpse at the biomes we can expect to see, and they'll include Scarlet Rot and Madness.

Overall, these are just a small portion of the countless NPCs, bosses, and side characters that I hope we get a chance to see in the live-action film. At this point, it's uncertain exactly what the story will focus on, or if we will even meet a fraction of the characters from the game. Regardless, Elden Ring is packed with rich lore and dynamic characters that would be incredible to see adapted to the big screen.
