If you've tried your hand at a solo expedition in Elden Ring Nightreign and haven't had much luck, you're not alone. Playing Nightreign alone is arguably one of the most challenging endeavors in the Souls franchise, though it's very likely FromSoftware will balance this at some point in the future. No matter which Nightfarer you choose for a solo run, you'll need to be on the top of your game if you want to stand a chance at even making it to the Nightlord, much less defeating it.

That said, I've had much better luck in Elden Ring Nightreign's solo mode with one Nightfarer thanks to her unique ability to summon spirits to fight by her side. Revenant is a necromancer-type class with a ive ability that automatically brings slain enemies to life, while her main skill allows her to call one of three different unique summons to her side. In a solo run, these summons serve as distractions for many of the bosses that spawn, and (with a little luck) you might actually be able to make some headway in a solo expedition.

Why Revenant Is The Best Nightfarer For Solo Mode

Revenant's Summons Give You Some Breathing Room During Boss Fights

The Revenant Nightfarer is my top choice for a solo run largely because having summons on the battlefield diverts enemies attention and allows you some breathing room. Revenant is a necromancer and/or summoner class that will automatically resurrect dead enemies during gameplay, so you'll see a lot of random summons pop up during each fight that end up being extremely helpful. This will happen considerably more often in solo mode because the effect only triggers when Revenant or one of her spirit summons gets the final blow on a target.

The dead enemies that Revenant raises will only attack targets that she does, but they will also be targeted by your enemies.

The second major advantage for solo mode with Revenant is her family member summons, which are part of her Character Skill. Revenant has three different family she can summon into combat, but only one at a time: Helen the Agile Page, Frederick the Burly Cook, and Sebastian the Doting Butler. Each of them is useful for different situations, but all of them are clutch in a solo run. Generally, they will effectively aggro bosses and other enemies, taking some of the heat off of you, even if just for a few moments.

Elden Ring Nightreign’s timeline has been a conundrum since it was announced, but one small trailer detail provides some major new information.

Finally, Revenant's Ultimate Art, Immortal March, can be extremely useful as well in solo mode, but must be used at the perfect moment to avoid certain death. The Immortal March Ult Art also triggers a unique skill for the summoned family member that Revenant has active, which can be used strategically as well. In my experience, these three Revenant features give you the best chance at success during a solo run, though it's important to note this will largely depend on both your playstyle and skill level.

Raider & Executor Are Viable, While Ironeye & Wylder Require More Luck

I spent quite some time playing solo because the servers were down for an entire day, and in that time I played several matches with each of the eight Nightfarers. As someone who has played over 1200 hours of Elden Ring, this was still a considerable challenge. Of all the Nightfarers, I was only able to make it to the Nightlord one time, and that was with Revenant on an incredibly lucky run. The Nightlord fight did not go well, despite being as well-prepared as I'd ever been.

If You Thought You Could Avoid Scarlet Rot In Elden Ring Nightreign, I've Got Bad News For You

Elden Ring Nightreign's overview trailer gives us a glimpse at the biomes we can expect to see, and they'll include Scarlet Rot and Madness.

However, I also made it to the Day 2 boss with Raider, Executor, Ironeye, and Wylder. Raider and Executor are a lot of fun and completely viable for solo mode, but they require a bit more skill and luck than Revenant. Ironeye and Wylder are also decent choices, but success here will be almost entirely based on luck. I can safely say that Recluse, Duchess, and Guardian were my least successful attempts at solo Nightreign. Simply put, you will have an equally hard time no matter which Nightfarer you choose for a solo run in Elden Ring Nightreign.
