On September 15th, Hidetaka Miyazaki received his first video game award for the game in Japan called the Grand Award, for Elden Ring, doubtlessly the first of many to follow. Although FromSoftware have always leaned into the dark fantasy genre, Soulsborne games only really appealed to a set type of player, something which seems to have been rectified by Elden Ring, drawing the genre more into the mainstream than ever.

For those who love the new title, but aren't generally fans of Soulsborne games, there are plenty of other top tier fantasy's with similar elements to Elden Ring that they can check out next, from Witcher to The Legend of Zelda.

There's no question that the entire God of War franchise is full of brutally violent fun gameplay. However, none of them quite top the experience in GoW (2018). This game gives an entirely different perspective of the protagonist, Kratos. Formally an antihero fighting for revenge is now a father wishing to live a life of peace and repentance.

All the GoW games give a dark fantasy feel much like Elden Ring with bloody gameplay. The mythical creatures Kratos faces, and the impeccable storytelling makes this a must-have game for any fantasy or mythology lover. Fans are excited more than ever as games in the second half of 2022.

The game contains plenty of real-world themes and is also an engaging fantasy tale. Although quite different to Elden Ring both include some of the genres best tropes.

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3 very well might be the perfect non-soulslike game for an Elden Ring fan. It contains an intriguing storyline with enticing quests, rigorous and exciting combat that allows players to utilize both swords and magic and plenty of horror elements to twist with the fantasy genre.

Skyrim is an ideal pick. The game can be dark, but not everything is so grim.

The world is also more traditionally fantasy-based and relies on previously created monsters (not that Skyrim doesn't create a few of its own) that fans will be familiar with from various movies, books, and games. What fans will likely love the most is the different sorts of builds players can choose to replay and experience the worlds over and over again.

The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

The Legend of Zelda franchise very well may be the best fantasy gaming franchise to ever exist. While some may argue that Breath of the Wild isn't Zelda's best game, there's no doubt that this game is one Elden Ring fans will love the most (though Twilight Princess is a great pick for a darker game).
