Elden Ring players who've been curious to see what Miquella really looks like inside of his cocoon container can now "explore" within, thanks to a high-definition video on YouTube. Miquella is a background dmeigod in Elden Ring who, much like many of the characters in the game, is shrouded in mystery. Famously directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and written in collaboration with Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, the stories of the world of The Lands Between are scattered in notes, lost journal entries, and character dialogue. Now, more of Miquella's story is being revealed via an inside look of his character model in Elden Ring.
According to the scattered lore of Elden Ring, Miquella was cursed to be young forever, and created the Haligtree to break his curse and purge the rot from his sister, Malenia. Malenia, better known as the Blade of Miquella, is notoriously one of the hardest bosses to beat in Elden Ring, and drops one of the game's coolest Katanas, the Hand of Malenia. Miquella, however, encased himself in a cocoon to grow and change with the Haligtree, before being stolen by
Mohg, Lord of Blood. This left Miquella in a languishing state, underdeveloped and shriveled. Though he appears misshapen and unmoving, notes in Elden Ring suggest that Miquella is actually sleeping, and could rise again in the future.
Miyazaki and author George R.R. Martin's collaboration on the story of Elden Ring led to the creation of some fascinating characters, of whom the demigod Miquella is one. Martin's role as a writer for Elden Ring helped FromSoftware create a lavish, dynamic, twisted world that hides many secrets, including details that aren't always delivered to players up front. The cocoon of Miquella the Empyrean was certainly on display, but players ouldn't see what Miquella looked like inside - at least until now.
Miquella's True Form In Elden Ring Can Be Seen Inside His Egg
Now, players and fans of Elden Ring can get a good look at the underdeveloped, sleeping form of Miquella, courtesy of a high-definition YouTube video created by BonfireVN. BonfireVN's channel is full of gorgeous footage captured from Elden Ring, including character models and environment features. BonfireVN's video travels within the Miquella cocoon, giving a full tour of the inside of the husk and showing what the Empyrean actually looks like - a huddled, corpse-like figure of spongy flesh that appears markedly larger than one might expect from in-game descriptions of the character.
Elden Ring is arguably FromSoftware's best Soulsborne game, with most of its gravitas and attention to detail shining through in the worldbuilding of George R. R. Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki. The Lands Between is at times both beautiful and hideous, boasting glorious scenery and hidden horrors throughout, and Miquella's cocoon is a perfect example of that duality. Inspiring wonder and unease, Miquella's cocoon can be found in the boss lair of Mohg, Lord of Blood, within the ruined lands of Elden Ring's Mohgwyn Palace.
