A powerful enemy from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the Wispmother, can be a difficult foe to defeat, especially for players at low levels. With a variety of techniques and a high damage output, this monster can quickly overcome the Dragonborn if they are ill-prepared to fight it. Thankfully, Wispmothers have a major weakness to fire that players can exploit to kill the creature more easily.

Wispmothers can be found in the map's icy locales such as Labyrinthian, a tomb visited during Skyrim's College of Winterhold questline. They primarily attack with powerful frost magic, laying Frost Rune traps and assaulting players with a barrage of ice. Additionally, a Wispmother can use smaller Wisp enemies to drain the Dragonborn's health as well as create weaker clones of itself called Shades. While these enemies should be approached with caution, targeting a Wispmother's weakness can make the encounter easier.

Exploiting an attacking Wispmother's weakness to fire is often the easiest path to killing it. A number of abilities and equipment in Skyrim inflict fire damage, all of which can be used in conjunction against a Wispmother. Summoning a Flame Atronach will attack the Wispmother with fire while also distracting it, allowing the Dragonborn attack with flames of their own. Following up with Skyrim's Destruction magic for fire spells in conjunction with a weapon enchanted to do fire damage and the Fire Breath Dragon Shout will result in massive damage to the Wispmother. Using this method, this normally difficult fight becomes much easier.

Alternatively, players can exploit Skyrim's environment to kill a Wispmother with little difficulty at all. As seen in a video by the YouTube channel glitches and exploits in Skyrim like this remain viable options for defeating enemies.

Defeating Wispmothers with quick and easy tactics is useful for players collecting alchemy ingredients. Both the Wisp Wrappings and Glow Dust dropped by defeated Wispmothers can be used to create many useful potions and poisons, so beating these enemies with as little resistance as possible is a preferable choice. Of course, players seeking a challenge can engage a Wispmother without the use of exploits for one of the more difficult fights The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has to offer.
