Polo is one of the most controversial characters on Polo as the central antagonist of the show.
And yet, somehow, by the end of season 3, fans will find themselves feeling sorry for Polo. It becomes clear that this character feels remorse for his actions and is haunted by his poor decisions. While watching him struggle, it is hard not to forgive him for most of what he has done.
Hated: Beat Up Christian
Christian and Polo's relationship went through some interesting developments. After everything was said and done, Polo hated Christian and blamed him for ending his relationship with Carla. In actuality, the only person to blame was Polo. Still, Polo is desperate to get revenge on Christian.
When Guzmán goes to search for Nano after learning Marina is pregnant, Polo is happy to in on the impending brawl. When they find Nano, he happens to be with Christian. Polo sees this as a great opportunity to get his hands on Christian and begins to beat him up. This moment shows Polo's ugliness.
Felt Bad: Cayetana Interested In Valerio
Polo is all alone and vulnerable when Cayetana becomes interested in him. She seems to have a creepy attachment to him. Although Polo initially displays no interest, he eventually enters into a relationship with Cayetana. This relationship likely formed because Cayetana was the only one willing to speak to Polo. Still, he began to become attached to her and thought very highly of their relationship.
Cayetana begins to express an interest in bringing Valerio into their relationship. Although this is supposed to be a relationship between three people, at times it seems obvious that Cayetana is more interested in Valerio and is using him to make her relationship with Polo bearable. If Valerio had the money and resources Polo had, Cayetana probably would have abandoned Polo much sooner.
Hated: Helped Cayetana Con
When Polo finds out the truth about Cayetana's financial circumstances, he convinces her to throw a benefit for a fake charity to raise money for herself. She seeks out Lu, asking her to help throw an event for a few individuals.
The event winds up being much bigger than she originally planned and Cayetana pushes Lu into the spotlight of the event to cover her own tracks. This betrayal makes Lu snap and she exposes Cayetana's con in front of everyone at the event.
Felt Bad: Carla Leaves Him
Polo and Carla had been together for many years. Over the first season, their relationship falls apart. While Carla was completely justified in leaving Polo, the pain he feels about this relationship ending is palpable. He cares deeply for Carla and goes through great lengths to try and get her back. Unfortunately for Polo, most of his attempts only make the relationship worse and Carla grows increasingly distant.
Hated: Relationship With Ander
Though the audience is told Polo and Ander are lifelong friends, there isn't much evidence of this shown. Their relationship becomes complicated in the second season of Elite. One night, Ander and Polo put Guzmán into bed and he asks them to sleep over. As they lay next to their ed out friend, Polo makes a move on Ander and the two hook up even though Ander is in a committed relationship with Omar.
Polo then confesses to Ander that he murdered Marina and asks him to keep his secret. This is extremely distressing to Ander and it was unfair of Polo to put him in this position. This confession will continue to haunt and negatively impact Ander throughout the rest of the series.
Felt Bad: Panic Attacks
After murdering Mariana, Polo seems to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. It is revealed that Polo suffers from anxiety and has been on medication to help manage his anxiety for years. There are several instances where Polo has a panic attack at school and he falls to the floor and struggles to catch his breath. These scenes are exceptionally difficult to watch.
Hated: Murdered Marina
The sin Polo is most ed for is murdering Marina. Polo originally approaches Marina hoping to convince her to hand over the stolen watch she had in her possession, hoping this would win back Carla's affection.
Instead of handing over the watch, Marina begins to hurtle insults at Polo. She mocks him for trying so hard to please Carla when she has obviously abandoned him. In a fit of rage, Polo picks up the trophy and bashes Marina over the head with it.
Felt Bad: Guzmán Says He Won't Forgive Him
By the season 3 finale, Polo is defeated. He is ready to confess to his crimes and goes to the graduation party only to try to make amends with all of the people he has harmed. He advocates to get Lu and Nadia's scholarship reinstated and intends to let them know.
When he sees Guzmán he tells him he will be going to the police following the party to take responsibility for Marina's death. He asks Guzmán if he will ever be able to forgive him. Guzmán replies with one word "Never." Polo looks into Guzmán's eye and it is clear that he is trying his best to keep from breaking down.
Hated: Coerced Christian
This is arguably the worst thing Polo has done. After Polo uses his mother's connections to get Christian into a magazine, he and Christian spend some time alone in the studio. Although the pair originally had plans to meet up with Carla, Polo lies to them both saying that the other is unavailable.
Polo then suggests to Christian that if he's willing to get intimate, he would be willing to speak to his mother to get Christian on the cover. Christian hesitates but eventually agrees. Not only did Polo manipulate Christian, coercing him into performing a sexual act with which he was not comfortable, Polo also lied about his ability to get Christian on the cover.
Felt Bad: Tried To Kill Himself
In season 2, Polo falls into a deep depression. He has lost everyone and decides that he'd rather not live. At his lowest moment, Polo takes some pills and then sits in the lifeguard chair above the pool. As he begins to lose consciousness, he falls into the pool and begins to drown. When Cayetana finds him, she jumps in and saves his life. In the days following, Polo makes it very clear that he wished she would have let him drown. Regardless of what Polo has done, this is tragic to watch.
