Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Emily in Paris season 2

As Netflix grants Netflix has renewed Emily in Paris for seasons 3 and 4. Despite garnering a mixed reception, the show remains extremely popular, and fueled by its romanticized storylines amidst a Parisian background, Emily in Paris’ longevity is now a possibility. With the comedy series gaining two additional seasons, viewers can already infer what Emily’s (Lily Collins) life-changing decision hinted at in season 2 might actually be.

Before renewing a show, Netflix normally waits for at least a month after a season’s release to gather viewership data and assess its success. But in the case of Emily in Paris, its first week viewership hours were already record-breaking. Emily in Paris season 2 topped the Global Netflix Top 10 list across 94 countries, with more than 107 million hours viewed between December 20 and 26, 2021 (via despite negative reviews, Emily in Paris is a worldwide phenomenon, and Netflix is not putting an end to it anytime soon. Bringing the show back for another set of adventures in the City of Lights will not only please its fans, but will also complete the characters’ arcs and answer season 2’s cliffhanger ending.

At the end of Emily in Paris season 2, the titular character had to choose a path that would determine her future. Would Emily stay in Paris and continue working with Sylvie and her team, or would she be loyal to Madeline and the Gilbert Group and eventually obtain her promotion in Chicago? However, Emily in Paris already spoiled its season 2 cliffhanger, and its two-season renewal further implied that Emily will be staying in Paris. Certainly, the show would not waste twenty episodes following her around back in Chicago, especially since showcasing the beauty and romance of Paris is arguably its biggest asset.

Emily calls Sylvie in Emily in Paris.

Even though Emily in Paris season 2 sidelined a significant plotline, ending similarly to season 1, the show proved that it can raise the stakes and create more dramatic yet meaningful circumstances for Emily. By letting her face a crossroads, Emily finally realized that it is time for her to grow, and her life in the foreign city was not simply a detour in her planned-out life. Her love for her marketing job, which includes interacting with various French clients, was also emphasized. So, it would make more sense that Emily would stay in Paris, choosing to still work with Sylvie and her team, rather than rebuild Savoir from the ground up while performing istrative tasks. Plus, with at least two more seasons, Emily in Paris can better explore the consequences of her decision and simultaneously maintain what makes the show a juggernaut of popular culture.

Besides, the future of Emily’s romantic relationships is still hanging in the balance. Although season 2 concludes with Gabriel choosing Camille, there is no guarantee that he will not chase Emily anymore. On the other hand, Alfie is still willing to pursue a long-distance relationship with Emily, and both relationships, which add spice to her personal life, can only occur in Paris. Hopefully, those storylines can be fleshed out more in the Emily in Paris seasons 3 and 4.
