Emma Frost. In the early years of the X-Men, the White Queen was able to reach deep into Bobby’s power reservoir and draw out astonishing abilities he didn’t even know he had. Unfortunately, in true Emma Frost style, Iceman was never told how to access that power, and instead, he was forced to learn about it for himself.
In one early '90s storyline, a weird twist of fate sees Bobby Drake and Emma Frost both fall into deep comas and somehow swap bodies. Being trapped in Iceman’s body takes a lot of getting used to for Emma, and to survive, she has to learn everything she can about his abilities. She takes as much time as she needs to truly explore everything he has to offerm, and accidentally unlocks a part of him that had never been seen before.
Emma Frost Keeps the Secrets of Iceman's Powers to Herself
Emma Frost is able to reveal that Iceman can do so much more than shoot ice and water out of his hands. He has a healing factor, is bulletproof, and can even travel long distances by literally melting into a puddle and sliding over to his destination where he can reform. These abilities had never previously been shown before and Bobby didn’t even know he had them. As a trained, intelligent psychic, Emma is able to push his powers to their limits and proves that Iceman still has a long way to go if he wants to use the full extent of his abilities. Much like Emma’s own indestructible diamond form, Bobby’s ice form is a way to explore his powers to their fullest extent if he chooses to remain in that form and train.
When Emma’s mind is coaxed out of Iceman’s body, she is left with the knowledge she has acquired about his powers. No longer able to do all those things she discovered, Bobby is forced to go through the learning process himself, a very long and tedious process that takes years to work through. It’s clear, though, that with the right amount of training and Emma Frost's help, Iceman's powers could potentially go beyond those of any other Omega-level mutant.
