Encanto 2 gets an update from producer Yvett Merino. Since its release in 2021, Encanto has become a massive success for Disney. Although the movie collected a decent $257 million at the box office, its prominence ballooned after its streaming release, particularly for its music. Not only was the animated movie met with critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature, but songs from Encanto have been the basis of copious TikTok sounds, and its characters have already been represented in countless cosplays and Halloween costumes.

Is Encanto 2 Still Possible?

Songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda said an Encanto sequel was “a question of when and not if,” expressing confidence in the creation of a sequel. Meanwhile, actors John Leguizamo and Stephanie Beatriz, who, respectively, voice Bruno and Mirabel, seemed less sure, albeit hopeful, about the prospect of Encanto 2.

Although a chance for an Encanto sequel seems uncertain, the original movie concluded the overarching story while still keeping doors open for more. After Bruno sees the vision of the Madrigal home getting destroyed, Mirabel attempts to stop the destruction from happening. After an argument between Alma and Mirabel that causes the inevitable collapse of their home, the two eventually resolve their differences while the townspeople help the Madrigal family rebuild their home. While there is still no confirmation of a sequel, the original movie at least completed Madrigal's story, which tackled themes of family, forgiveness, and healing. Still, there are more stories to explore, such as any possibilities for Mirabel to acquire powers and the village attack in Colombia before the movie's present events.
