The G.I. Joe villain Destro finds himself in the fight of his life against fellow villains the Crimson Twins, Tomax and Xamot Paoli. As the advent of the Cobra organization in the Energon Universe is precipated by an all-out conflict between iconic Joe adversaries, Destro’s M.A.R.S. Destro #2 – written by Dan Watters, with art by Andrei Bressan – opens with the arms dealer and his opponents, and the Crimson Twins rallying their respective troops with a speech, preparing for the coming war between the two weapons manufacturers.

Destro’s Iron Grenadiers attack the Crimson Guard, only to be shot out of the sky. The Crimson Guard then attack a M.A.R.S. facility, only to be taken apart by the Energon-infused B.A.T.s.

Having two of the Energon Universe version seems to have the same ambitions.
Destro and the Crimson Twins’ war escalates to the point where both parties agree to meet on neutral ground. Destro confronts Tomax and Xamot on a remote island where the military superpowers of the world have dumped their old ordinance – the perfect thematic landscape for such a meeting to take place. Both sides realize that whoever wins this war of theirs will ultimately subsume the other’s arms company. Thus, Destro and the Crimson Twins agree to keep the collateral damage to a minimum, sending assassins to deal with each other to prevent further harm to their respective companies.
It seems entirely possible that there are unknown forces manipulating things behind the scenes to put Destro and the Twins in conflict.
Destro's Conflict With The Crimson Twins Might Be Part Of A Greater Plot
Someone Else Might Be Pulling The Strings
What’s interesting about this scene is how the Crimson Twins continue to plead their innocence in the attack on Darklonia in the previous issue, which kicked the whole conflict off in the first place. Destro assumes that Tomax and Xamot are lying, but their unwillingness to bend is interesting, and raises some intriguing questions. It seems entirely possible that there are unknown forces manipulating things behind the scenes to put Destro and the Twins in conflict. In the G.I. Joe corner of the Energon Universe, anything is possible.
