Netflix's sequel Harry Potter alum David Thewlis and Dune: Part One's Sharon Duncan-Brewster.

Enola Holmes 2 will follow Enola after she opens her own private detective agency and is asked to help a young girl who works at a match factory find her sister. Beyond that, not much is known about the contents of the film, as so far it doesn't seem to be based on any of the books in the Enola Holmes series by Nancy Springer, the young adult novels on which the franchise is based. For a long time, plot details and release information have been kept in the dark. However, Netflix has been starting to ramp up their promotional engine for the film, releasing an Enola Holmes 2 teaser poster before sharing three first-look images today. As Netflix doesn't their films very far in advance, this led many to speculate the release date was drawing near.

The speculations about the promotional campaign have proven to be correct, as, per Netflix, Enola Holmes 2 now has an official release date. The sequel will be hitting the streaming platform on November 4, 2022. This is just over a month past the two-year anniversary of the original film, which debuted on September 23, 2020.

This release date, in addition to being consistent with the Fall release pattern established by the first film, will fill in the somewhat anemic slate of blockbusters between the end of Summer and the 2022 holiday season. So far, the only theatrical competition that weekend is the David O. Russell historical drama Amsterdam, which likely won't be drawing the same demographic as Enola Holmes. The sequel is also wisely avoiding coming out on the same weekend as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which premieres on November 11.

The success of the original Enola Holmes was partially due to the fact that it came out in a pandemic-era cinema landscape that didn't have many other options for new entertainment. If Enola Holmes 2 can manage to repeat that film's success after two years, it will spell out very good things for the future of the franchise. There are at least a half dozen novels in the Springer series, so these movies have plenty of source material to choose from, should the film be successful enough to earn an Enola Holmes 3.
