The first poster for Netflix's Enola Holmes focuses on its star-studded cast, including Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, and Helena Bonham Carter. The movie is an adaptation of Nancy Springer's book series of the same name, which follows the adventures of the titular heroine. Brown plays Enola, the teenage sister of Sherlock (Cavill), and Mycroft (Sam Claflin). Director Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) helms from a script by Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials).
The plot follows Enola as she attempts to solve the sudden disappearance of her first teaser trailer for the movie yesterday, along with a very non-cryptic clue as to the movie's release date on the streaming service.
Now, the first poster for Enola Holmes has arrived. The stylish artwork foregrounds the movie's phenomenal cast, placing the focus squarely on Stranger Things star Brown. Cavill gets second billing in of poster space, with Claflin claiming a fair amount of space too. The poster also gives a first glimpse of Carter, seemingly in the middle of a fight, and also makes space for ing characters, played by Adeel Akhtar, Susan Wokoma, and Louis Partridge. You can see the full-size poster below.
As the clue from yesterday's trailer hinted, the movie will be released on Netflix on September 23. Aside from the ensemble cast, the poster makes it clear that the action will take place, for the most part, in London, thanks to the appearance of Big Ben. The lawsuit from Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle's estate, which was announced in June, hasn't scuppered Netflix's release plans for the movie.
Whatever the result of that legal action, Netflix is clearly proud of the movie it bought from Legendary Pictures. With a string of high-profile action releases in recent months, including Extraction, The Old Guard, and Project Power, Netflix seems to have cornered the summer blockbuster market for 2020, especially when one considers that most theaters worldwide are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, this movie looks to be more than another action movie. Based on the marketing so far, it seems like it'll be a combination of fun action, adventure, and humor. And with the focus placed squarely on the cast in this poster, it's clear that the streaming giant thinks it has a family-friendly hit on its hands. And you wouldn't bet against it, with the likes of Brown, Cavill, and Carter appearing on-screen. Expect the charm to be turned up in Enola Holmes.
