After the exceptionally busy month of March, April is bringing a number of highly anticipated games, including the mesmerizing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, among a number of Xbox exclusives. It is looking set to be yet another great month for games, once again cementing 2025 as the year for novel experiments and innovative releases, which is great for those who've begun to feel a little burnt out by the annual releases and lackluster sequels.

April isn't as busy as March, which featured several massive games, but it still has a lot to offer, especially for those who've been waiting for Xbox's lineup of exciting new exclusives to finally release. With a smattering of AAA titles like the aforementioned JRPG, Clair Obscur, a number of intriguing new indies, and plenty of AA releases, April has so many games worth keeping an eye on.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Is April's Biggest Game

It Is A Star-Studded, Sprawling JRPG

By far the biggest game of April is one of 2025's most-anticipated RPGs, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It is the debut title from French developer, Sandfall Interactive, a relatively small team that has been working on Expedition 33 for a number of years. It features a fascinating plot that follows the titular 33rd expeditionary team as they attempt to take down the Paintress, a mysterious being who, once a year, paints an ever-descending number, causing everyone of that age to die. It definitely seems like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is set to be an incredibly mature and dark story-focused JRPG.

Clair Obscur's star-studded cast may be a highlight for many, featuring the likes of Daredevil's Charlie Cox and Baldur's Gate 3's Jennifer English. However, for those who aren't as interested in the voices behind the game's hopefully compelling cast of characters, it also features a phenomenal soundtrack - some of which is available to listen to on YouTube - as well as jaw-dropping cinematic visuals, a unique spin of turn-based combat, and a lore-rich world full of fascinating characters, many of whom make up the game's core roster of heroes.

Xbox Is Having A Great Month In April

South Of Midnight Is Its Latest Exclusive

Of course, those who aren't as interested in sprawling JRPGs may want to check out Compulsion Games' latest title, South of Midnight. This unique third-person action adventure title follows the adventures of Hazel as she navigates the Deep South and its folkloric creatures. Featuring the Spider-Verse style of animation for its cutscenes, as well as a deeply emotional narrative centered around Hazel and the lives of those living in the game's surreal world, South of Midnight is set to be an incredible narrative-driven experience.

Both South of Midnight and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are releasing day-one on Xbox Game , which means it might just be worth holding onto that subscription or choosing to subscribe.

In addition to South of Midnight, Xbox is releasing both Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Forza Horizon 5 onto PlayStation 5 in what will likely be the start of a fairly momentous move. Xbox has been slowly transitioning into more of a publisher role for some time now, but the move to put Forza onto PlayStation is the clearest indication we've gotten to its true intentions. April is definitely the true start of Xbox's intention to cull the now defunct red line and push everything it can onto PlayStation and other platforms. Who knows? Maybe Halo is next.

Perhaps the most notable releases of the month, outside the aforementioned obvious choices, are Rusty Rabbit, Lushfoil Photography Sim, Promise Mascot Agency, and the somewhat controversial Days Gone Remastered on PC. These and the many more titles releasing in April should be enough to tide over fans until May, when the likes of DOOM: The Dark Ages and Elden Ring: Nightreign are dropping. Of course, there are likely still those who are getting through the gigantic Assassin's Creed Shadows, but hopefully, everyone will have time to squeeze in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and South of Midnight, at the very least.
