Warning: Contains SPOILERS for West Coast Avengers #2! Captain America’s shield is certainly one of a kind. Except, maybe it isn’t anymore, as Cap’s ‘evil twin’ just got his own version of the iconic shield.
In West Coast Avengers #2 by Gerry Duggan and Danny Kim, the Avengers are on a mission to upset the criminal enterprise controlled by the new Flag-Smasher aka Steven Rogers. version of Captain America’s shield: adamantium batons.
Just as Captain America’s shield is virtually unbreakable, so too are Hydra Cap’s batons. But, it’s not just the fact that they’re made of adamantium that makes them so deadly, but how skilled Flag-Smasher is with them. Iron Man himself comments on the fact that Flag-Smasher is as dangerous with the batons as Captain America is with his shield, as he knows how to use them the same way. Hydra Cap can hit multiple targets with a single throw, only for the batons to almost magically reappear in his hand, and he can use them to block practically any attack.
How Did Captain America’s Evil Twin Get His Adamantium Batons?
Flag-Smasher Used to Go By a Different Name in Marvel Comics: Captain Krakoa
Before he became the new Flag-Smasher (but after he made a name for himself as ‘Hydra Cap’), Steven Rogers took on another moniker: Captain Krakoa. Captain Krakoa was the fake superhero created by the X-Men to conceal Scott Summers’ identity after Cyclops publicly died, as mutantkind still wanted to keep the fact that they had the ability to resurrect their own a secret from the rest of the world. Captain Krakoa was then co-opted by Orchis upon the fall of Krakoa, and ‘Hydra Cap’ was given the mantle.
As Captain Krakoa, Steven had access to the island after the mutants fled, where he found adamantium skeletons from discarded Wolverine clones. In one of the final story arcs of the Krakoan Era, Beast created a number of Wolverine clones using the mutants’ resurrection capabilities before the entire X-Force team shut his operation down. However, all those corpses must have just been left to rot on Krakoa, ripe for Flag-Smasher to steal their adamantium skeletons and use them for himself.
Marvel Comics Teases the Ultimate Rematch Between Captain America & His Evil Twin
The West Coast Avengers Should Recruit Steve Rogers to Deal with Flag-Smasher
After the West Coast Avengers tangled with Flag-Smasher, he proved too much for them and actually escaped. Not only does this prove how truly deadly he is with his adamantium batons, but it also sets up an ultimate rematch. Captain America and Hydra Cap famously battled at the end of Secret Empire, but now that Flag-Smasher has his batons, it’s time he tests them out on his heroic counterpart. Only then will Flag-Smasher truly be able to say that he’s as skilled with his batons as Captain America is with his shield, and it’s something fans deserve to see.

The Avengers Missed Out for 60 Years, But Marvel Is Ready to Revive the Team's Top Foe
The Avengers have been around for more than 60 years in Marvel, and the same is true for one classic foe, which is getting a perfect reintroduction.
Regardless of whether Captain America gets the chance to fight Flag-Smasher, Iron Man - and Marvel Comics as a whole - already confirmed that Steven Rogers is insanely deadly with his adamantium batons in this issue of West Coast Avengers alone. In other words, Captain America’s ‘evil twin’ has his own version of the iconic shield, and he might need to watch out.

Initially debuting in 1940, Captain America is the patriotically themed superhero who has shared the title with only a few individuals. Beginning with Steve Rogers, Captain America's birth resulted from a frail man taking part in an experimental U.S. Army super-soldier trial, which imbued him with super-human abilities. The character is often depicted wielding a nigh unbreakable and aerodynamic shield made of vibranium that they use to defend and attack their foes.
