2020's The Game Awards gave fans a preview of Evil Dead: The Game, a horror title set to release sometime in 2021. The game is going to be based off of the original Evil Dead movie, as well as the many sequels and spin-off series that have followed. Although the game will include its own unique mechanics, maps, and characters, it already appears to share some similarities with another movie-to-game horror title - Friday the 13th: The Game.

Both Friday the 13th:The Game and Evil Dead: The Game are based on classic horror movies, meaning that both have an ample cast of characters to feature in the game. Friday the 13th: The Game allowed fans to play as the infamous Jason Voorhees during gameplay, giving them an opportunity to slash their way through innocent camp counselors staying at Crystal Lake. Evil Dead: The Game will also allow fans to play as popular movie characters including Ash Williams, the franchise's protagonist who is traditionally played by Bruce Campbell.

Both games are played from the third-person perspective, and both have a focus on action elements. Friday the 13th: The Game had various weapons that players could find around the map, such as knives, guns, and general household items. Evil Dead: The Game will be similar, boasting 25 unique weapons for players to choose from, including Ash's boomstick and chainsaw. Although the presence of deadites in Evil Dead: The Game may allow for more regular fighting than Friday the 13th: The Game featured, combat should share a similar emphasis within both games.

What Will Multiplayer Be Like In Evil Dead: The Game?

Potentially the most drastic similarity between the two games will be their unique style of multiplayer. Friday the 13th: The Game's most prominent feature was its asymmetric multiplayer system, in which one player took on the role of Jason with the mission to hunt and murder everyone else. All other players were allowed to select between the various counselors and had to work together in order to escape Jason and survive. In Evil Dead: The Game players will have a chance to take control of the Kandarian Demon, allowing them to control deadites and hunt the players. This player vs. player element may act similarly to what was incorporated in Friday the 13th: The Game, although having control of the possessed spirits add an entirely new element to the gameplay.

Even though Friday the 13th:The Game's asymmetrical multiplayer system didn't necessarily have the success some fans expected it to, that doesn't mean it isn't a mechanic that gamers enjoy. Titles such as Among Us have demonstrated how popular a game can be when friends are thrust against each other in entirely different roles, and Evil Dead: The Game's Kandarian Demon option should be able to provide an equally engaging experience. For friends who prefer not to fight amongst themselves, the game's co-op option will thankfully be available to keep them entertained.
