How Katja Herbers Changed Evil Season 4's Ending Detailed By Creator

Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for the Evil series finale!

Summary

  • Kristen protects Timothy, leaving his fate uncertain as the potential Antichrist or a child with only some demonic residue left over.
  • Timothy's demonic signs pose a danger, with Kristen deciding to keep them a secret from David despite how important they would be for either the Church or the 60.
  • Because Evil was cancelled, it's unclear what would have happened to Timothy if the story had continued.

Evil series finale, Kristen agrees to move her family to Rome for six months, helping David start up a new assessor program for the Vatican. However, the final scene shows Timothy displaying demonic signs like sharp, pointed teeth, something his mother covers up with a pacifier before the priest can see it.

Speaking with Deadline about Kristen's decision to protect Timothy, the Kings explain how Evil has always been about the good and bad in all their characters. The co-creators point out how the baptism may not have cured the baby of all his demonic influence, while teasing what secrets his mother might keep from David in the future. Check out what the Kings had to say below:

Robert King: Because when characters you love and embrace throughout the show are shown to have an evil side, or, in case of Kristen, kills someone, you protect them because you embrace the show. But in fact, the show … does it have a false narrator to it. Michelle, you must have a better explanation of that than I do.

Michelle King: I don’t have a better explanation, but I think I have a slightly different take on it. I mean, there’s a question, when you see the baby, are you thinking, “Oh, wow, is it in fact, the Antichrist, or did the baptism take hold and bring out 95% angelic in the way that some medications work, treating 95% of symptoms, and yet there’s still 5% of the demonic there.” There are different ways to look at it.

Robert King: To me, what it’s about is Kristen being the mother she is, covers for this baby by plugging the pacifier in his mouth, to cover it for David. She doesn’t want David to see it. So, it seems like that relationship will be fraught and kind of a little bit cat and mouse going forward.

What Does Kristen & Timothy's Future Look Like?

He Could Still Be The Antichrist

Although it's never definitive whether Timothy is the Antichrist in Evil, or if his baptism caused the title to be stripped from him. Since Leland is the boy's father, it makes sense for him to showcase demonic features, even if they've mostly been repressed, as Michelle believes. However, he still has a target on his back, as the 60 likely still want to kill both him and Kristen so they have a fresh start in bringing about their demonic messiah. This makes it unclear what his future will hold if he continues to display demonic attributes.

Since Kristen is keeping said attributes a secret from David, the Church could also pose a danger to her baby in the future as well. While his teeth were just the start of his demonic side coming out, this could develop even further depending on how much influence is still left inside of him. This could even involve Lexis, whose connection to RSM Fertility and the 60's plans for Timothy could complicate his planned fate moving forward. With so many different factors at play, the child will no doubt pose even more importance as he grows older.

The end of the Paramount+ supernatural series, Evil, has fans and cast desperate to save the show with hopes an Evil season 5 could happen.

While Evil getting cancelled after season 4 means there won't be any definitive developments surrounding Timothy's evolution as the show progresses, the Kings clearly have ideas for where his story could be taken. Since Kristen would no doubt want to continue protecting him from anyone that would want to do him harm, it could put her at odds with both the 60 and the Church - perhaps even David - in the process. With so much potential for where their story could go, it's unfortunate nothing concrete will be revealed about how the storyline plays out.

The Kings originally planned for Evil to last until season 6, before it was cancelled after season 4.
