In its third installment, the Paramount+ series saw the villainous Leland with his back against the wall. But, unluckily for her, after spending so long about what actually happened to her frozen eggs, it turns out that Leland will play the surrogate father to a woman that's essentially carrying Kristen's child. In an interview with the already-renewed Evil season 4. When asked about what his character had planned for Kristen's baby, the actor answered that Leland's mission had to do with recruitment overall and making sure that the "demon seats" remain filled. Overall, in the quote which you can read below, it sounds like Kristen will be facing an uphill battle.

He seems to have an overarching mission of recruitment but also he’s responsible for filling the ranks of the demon seats, so he seems to have to do a whole lot to keep that whole enterprise going since he can be a go-between with humanity.

From almost the start of Evil, the central crux of the issue Kristen has with Leland is that he has been a threat to her family. The situation had gotten so intense that, at one point, she even considered killing him to protect her family. In more recent episodes, as Leland has turned his attention to Sister Andrea (played by Andrea Martin) and Dr. Kurt Boggs (Kurt Fuller), they've had fewer altercations. But the cliffhanger brings back their rivalry in a big way, suggesting that they might arrive at a boiling point.

There is, of course, also the fact that Leland has been helping to abduct Kristen's husband, Andy. It's only one of several dangling threads that the season will have to address, while also balancing the case-of-the-week structure that has helped the Paramount+ series become a formidable hit. Often, the show's writers will initially backtrack on their cliffhangers and briefly deemphasize them as they reintroduce the audience to the characters. That may well be the case with Evil season 4, at least at first, but it's inevitable that Kristen and Leland will have a major clash.
