The sequel to 2014's cerebral and utterly horrific The Evil Within, 2017's The Evil Within 2 doubled down on the scares and introduced some truly bizarre enemies. This intriguing survival horror experience is filled with strange yet fascinating monsters which can be quite frightening and strong.

In the best possible scenario, Sebastian would pick up all the weapons needed for fighting a certain monster, but, sometimes, not everything goes according to plan. If he doesn't manage to find a certain weapon in time or wastes all the bullets while triggering a boss fight, depending on the monster's difficulty, things can quickly go south pretty quickly.

Spawn

Like something out of a Silent Hill-inspired nightmare, the Spawn is a fast-moving entity that's been contorted into an unrecognizable monster. Its heads are its weak point, and the fourth one can be kind of hard to shoot, so the best approach is to use a hand ax. Sneaking up on them is almost impossible since they usually roam around in pairs, and, once they sense a heartbeat, they run at the target.

Effigy

The Effigy monster from The Evil Within 2.

The Effigy is a mutated monster that is made of what seems to be two fetus-like humans, with one useless dangling limb and six arms. It is summoned by Myra in an attempt to hinder Sebastian's progress toward the end of the game.

The Effigy can perform a jump towards Sebastian and attack him with large hands, blocking the barrier to move forward. By jumping, it can contribute to a great deal of damage, exposing him to more attacks, so the best way to defend is by using explosive Warden Balts or the freezing ones.

Disciple

The Desciple enemy from The Evil Within 2.

The flame-bursting, human-like monster created by Father Theodore Wallace is his own version of "The Lost." In an attempt to stop Sebastian, he created a muscular creature that is able to endure self-immolation and spread his fires to surrounding surfaces.

He's weak to freeze bolts fired from Sebastian's Warden's crossbow, so taking him out from a distance with these is always the best bet, though that's not always an option.

Harbinger

The Harbinger enemy from The Evil Within 2.

With the flamethrower by his side, Harbinger is one of the creatures that doesn't open itself up for sneak attacks. The idea of blowing up his fuel tank is out of the option since it won't actually kill him but only make him angrier and more aggressive.

He is large, dangerous, and wears black gloves that are similar to the ones the Keeper wears. As it turns out, the Harbinger is a brainwashed Liam O'Neil that fell into the cruel hands of Father Theodore.

Guardian

The Guardian enemy from The Evil Within 2.

What would a couple of female corpses all combines together look like? The Guardian is a grotesque amalgamation created by Stefano Valentini on behalf of his artistic vision.

It is comprised of multiple heads and body parts formed right on the spot from a pile of dead bodies he has killed. The Guardian is one of the more memorable monsters that Sebastian will stumble across, but, with a help of a sniper rifle and a shotgun, it can be blown into pieces.

Sadist

The Sadist enemy from The Evil Within 2.

His appearance is comprised of a large man wearing a spikey metal mask covering most of his face. The weapon he mainly carries is a bloody chainsaw or meat cleaver.

It's almost impossible to kill him without going to extreme measures since the Sadist is only there to toy with Sebastian. The most useful weapon against him is a stunning flash bolt, which can grant Sebastian enough time to escape his pursuit.

Obscura

The Obscure enemy from The Evil Within 2.

Probably one of the freakiest looking monster designs in the game, Obscura is a creation of non-other than twisted artist Stefano Valentini. She will exclusively follow Stefano's demands and destroy anything that gets in her path. With a vintage camera for a head and distorted female body with one extra leg, this Frankenstein-looking creature is best to hit directly in the lens.

The Keeper

The Keeper enemy from THe Evil Within 2.

At the first glance, the Keeper looks almost as if he is a human dressed in a creepy butcher's outfit. His weapons consist of a meat sack, hammer, and barbed wire which can kill Sebastian instantly.

At one point Seb must fight all three keepers at once, which can be quite a challenge without the Warden Crossbow. Freeze or Charging bolts can also be useful, as the player needs to keep the distance when duking it out with this Silent Hill-inspired tormenter.

Reborn Laura

The Reborn Laura boss fight from The Evil Within 2.

Laura Victoriano is one of the most mysterious characters of the series since players only encounter her spirit. The way they learn about her is through the memories that accrue every once in a while throughout the game.

She could be the main catalyst of why the events of The Evil Within started in the first place, therefore, she is bound to haunt Sebastian's mind. Laura spawns from a pool of blood while emitting an unbearable scream that makes the skin crawl.

Matriarch

The Matriarch, the final boss battle in The Evil Within 2.

Being the final boss battle of the game, Matriarch is difficult to beat, so the best approach is by aiming at parts of the body that are sparkling. It is yet another of Myra's manifestations that attempt to keep her beloved daughter safe within STEM, even if the price is to keep her away from her own father. Matriarch's weakest spots are on its shoulder, stomach, and mouth, while the best weapons to defeat it are a sniper rifle in combination with a flame thrower.
