March 2022's PlayStation State of Play came with the announcement of a new Capcom IP, Exoprimal, and it already looks cooler than the Jurassic World series. Almost no details on it are available aside from a few basics, but its action-packed trailer promises a new and exciting experience. Players can expect to mow down hordes of dinosaurs while piloting advanced exosuits once it releases in 2023.

In Exoprimal, the world is under threat. It's not from aliens, or supervillains, or even some of the threats people are familiar with in real life, but from dinosaurs. The distant past is coming to endanger the future through some method that isn't yet explained. In order to protect humanity, pilots known as exofighters must don advanced exosuits in order to fight them back. It doesn't look like Capcom's other fighting games like Street Fighter, but it appears to be even better. The story and most of the gameplay are still unknown, but hopefully, they're just as good as its trailer.

The visuals and gameplay shown in the State of Play presentation promise a high-octane game with more dinosaur-fighting action than most games, including the Jurassic World ones, have offered in the past. It mostly shows small raptor species that swarm players and try to overwhelm them with sheer numbers, but larger ones such as the triceratops and T-rex appear as well. From what's available so far, it looks even cooler than the Jurassic World movies and games, and hopefully stays that way in the time leading up to its release.

Why Exoprimal Looks Cooler Than Jurassic World

Rexy the T-Rex reclaiming Isla Nublar as her island in Jurassic World

In recent years, Capcom has been limiting itself to Resident Evil and its other best-selling games, so seeing it come out with a new IP to compete with Jurassic World (and games like Capcom's own Dino Crisis) in the form of Exoprimal is refreshing. The visuals of the game look very exciting; seeing the portals drop in countless raptors is hard to look away from, and seeing a T-rex munching down on an exofighter is horrifying yet fascinating. The graphics look clear in the gameplay portions, which is promising given its far-off release window.

The trailer is a mix of in-game cutscenes and gameplay, and what there is of the gameplay looks great. Exofighters putting up powerful shields to defend their allies, flying through the air, and mowing down hordes of raptors arguably looks cooler than anything Jurassic World has done so far. It looks like players will have to work together to survive against the dinosaur onslaughts, with strategy and communication being important aspects. Some promising Capcom games still aren't released, but hopefully the studio will stay true to its projected release window and let players take on the hordes in 2023.

Jurassic World and its predecessor, Jurassic Park, are quite possibly the most famous dinosaur movies out there. Their video games are good, but Exoprimal already looks like it could be better than them. The Evolution games focus on managing a dinosaur park, and Aftermath is focused on avoiding the raptors that inhabit Isla Nublar. Neither of them let players face off against the dinosaurs like Exoprimal promises to, and with the futuristic exosuits, it's tough for them to compete with the new Capcom IP. Exoprimal may take the throne and become the next big dinosaur series.
