Telltale Games is back in business after its The Expanse TV show. As the show’s final season premieres, fans will get another piece of the universe to dive into with this game. Featuring locations and characters from the books and the show, the game will tell a canon story set in the universe of The Expanse.
Telltale Games is best known for its narrative-heavy, choice-based games such as The Walking Dead and Batman. Throughout its history, Telltale Games worked with many high-profile IP, including Minecraft and Guardians of the Galaxy. In the middle of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, the studio was forced to start closing down as it lost investor money, and the company shut its door in October of 2018. However, LCG Entertainment acquired much of the company in 2019 and announced that the studio would reopen to make new games. Now, Telltale has announced what it’s working on.
Today, at the 2021 Game Awards, Telltale released a trailer for The Expanse: A Telltale Game (via delayed Life is Strange Remastered Collection. No further info was given as to when the game is set to release or what platforms it will be on.
The trailer shows a ship, The Artemis on its way to Jupiter while a voice-over plays from an unidentified narrator. The narrator speaks about Drummer’s history as the camera travels down a hallway in the ship, ending with Drummer herself stepping into full view. Drummer then ejects someone from an airlock, and that’s where the trailer ends. While there isn’t much more info about the game as of yet, it’s likely that it will follow the familiar Telltale formula that’s led to some great (and some not so great) games.
After Telltale closed and then reopened, gamers were left wondering what the studio would be putting out. The Wolf Among Us 2 was announced at 2019’s Game Awards, confirming a long-awaited and much-anticipated sequel to one of Telltale’s more popular games. This is the first announcement of additional games that the studio’s made, and it continues its tradition of working with big series. It remains to be seen if The Expanse: A Telltale Series will, in fact, be a Telltale game just like gamers , or if it will be something new.
