Warning: Major Spoilers For Extraction 2 Below!Extraction's ending suggested Hemworth's mercenary Rake may have survived his seemingly fatal plunge into a river, and the streaming numbers made Extraction 2 made his resurrection an inevitability.
Extraction 2 follows a similar formula to the original but with even more ambitious action and fight sequences. The story sees Rake recovering from his injuries, but then being recruited by Idris Elba's mysterious Extraction 2 character Alcott to break his former sister-in-law Ketevan (Tinatin Dalakishvili) and her children out of a Georgian prison. Rake's former wife Mia (Olga Kurylenko) personally requested him for the mission, so he and his team have to fight their way through a literal army to get the family to safety.
Tyler & Zurab's Final Fight & Who Dies In Extraction 2's Ending
During Extraction 2's one-shot prison escape, Tyler ends up killing Ketevan's husband Davit, who had forced her and their children to stay with him. Davit and his brother Zurab (Tornike Gogrichiani) head up a Georgian paramilitary outfit called The Nagazi, and upon learning of Davit's death, Zurab mobilizes his soldiers and vows to stop at nothing to avenge his brother. This includes a broad daylight assault on a safe house in Austria, where after a huge gunfight, Zurab succeeds in killing Nik's (Golshifteh Farahani) brother Yaz; Zurab also kidnaps his own nephew Sandro (Andro Jafaridze).
After taking Ketevan and her daughter to safety, Rake receives a call from Zurab, demanding a meeting in exchange for Sandro's life. Extraction 2's finale sees Tyler tool up and assault the airfield where Zurab is waiting, with the two having a showdown in a church. After a failed bid to make a "man" out of Sandro by forcing him to shoot Rake, Zurab and Rake engage in a vicious brawl. While Zurab makes for a vicious opponent, Rake eventually comes out on top and kills him with a shot to the head.

Extraction 2's ending sees both Rake and Nik arrested by police shortly after Zurab's death. Presumably, the huge carnage their black ops mercenary group wrought in their battles with The Nagazi is to blame for this. Regardless, Rake isn't in prison for very long. Shortly after saying his final goodbyes to Mia, he's taken from the prison to meet with Elba's Alcott again. Nik s them soon after, and given the ease with which they were both released, Alcott - or whoever he works for - clearly has some major connections.

"expand" the Extraction franchise, and he will likely be a recurring character in future entries. Almost nothing is revealed about him though, and his name is only mentioned in Extraction 2's credits.
One detail Extraction 2 teases is that Alcott works for, in his own words, a real "gnarly motherf**ker." Both Alcott and his boss get Rake and Nik out of prison because they want them to go on another mission. Given the near-impossible feats Rake has pulled off in the past - even earning the nickname the "Myth of Mumbai" following the events of Extraction - it's easy to see why Alcott would go to the extra effort of breaking him out.
What Happened To Ketevan & The Children In Extraction 2's Ending
Prior to Tyler's own prison extraction, he meets one final time with ex-wife Mia. As Mia was left alone to deal with their son's illness and death, there's understandably a great deal of tension and regret between them. She visits Tyler to let him know that Ketevan and her two children have gone into witness protection, as they brokered a deal with the Americans in exchange for information on The Nagazi's dealing. Mia also mentions their assets were frozen, but Rake tells her there's $1 million hidden in his home that he wants her to retrieve and give to Ketevan, so they can start a new life.
What Happened To Tyler's Son: The Real Meaning Of His & Mia's Goodbye
The original Extraction revealed Rake's son died of lymphoma, and that he left because he couldn't bear to watch him die. Rake is still haunted by guilt in Extraction 2, and he reveals to Mia during an emotional confrontation that he left because he "couldn't fix it." He also tells Sandro that his son's last image of his father was of him walking away. In Extraction 2's ending, Rake thanks Mia for having the strength to do what he couldn't, and she reveals what their son actually thought of his father.
Rake's son didn't believe Rake had abandoned him; he felt his father was a hero who shipped out to Afghanistan to save lives. Mia also reveals their son was "so brave" in his final days. Extraction 2 offers Rake some element of his redemption, but while he and Mia seem to make peace with one another, she still doesn't forgive him for his actions. Having survived the events of two Extraction movies, it will be interesting to see where a potential third entry will take his character.
Will There Be Extraction Spinoffs After Extraction 2's Ending? What The Russos Have Said
The Extraction films are produced by the Russo Brothers, who also proved the story for the original while Joe Russo wrote both. Given their experience with shared universes, the original Extraction is surprisingly lean in of story and didn't seem to be setting up a wider franchise. However, shortly after the movie's 2020 debut, the Russos hinted at a CCXP (via Screen Rant) that spinoffs were in the works, and namedropped David Harbour's Gaspar as a character who could front his own movie.
There were also rumors an origin story for Randeep Hooda's Saju was also being considered for a solo movie. However, considering both of those characters died in the first movie and little has been heard about those potential spinoffs in years, they're unlikely to happen now. If Extraction does receive a spinoff, it will likely revolve around Idris Elba's Extraction 2 character as he recruits another mercenary team for a mission; or better yet, maybe Alcott will get his very own spinoff.
