Summary
- A new Fable trailer debuted at Xbox Games Showcase, featuring new characters like retired hero Humphry.
- Gameplay clips show the protagonist's combat with swordplay, archery, and magic in an open world.
- Fable is expected to release in 2025, available on Game for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
A new trailer for Fable premiered at the Xbox Games Showcase. The title was officially announced back in 2020, with another trailer featuring Richard Ayoade being shown at the Xbox Games Showcase last year, and the new footage showed some of the characters players will interact with, including Albion's greatest (retired) hero, Humphry, and provided a further look at the stunning open world.
Whereas the previous trailer was mostly cinematic - and there were plenty of cinematics in the new Xbox Games Showcase trailer, too - the new look features some clips of gameplay, with the protagonist's combat blending swordplay, archery, and magic. The trailer also confirmed a 2025 release window, and that the game will be coming to Game on Xbox Series X/S and PC upon its launch.

What The New Fable Needs To Be Better Than The Original Trilogy
The original Fable games were flawed masterpieces. How can the new Fable game keep the best parts of its prequels while avoiding the same issues?
Fable's Trailer Leans Into The Concept Of What Choices A Hero Has To Make
Strongly Suggesting The Original Games' Morality System Will Return
While the previous trailer focused on Ayoade's character, Dave the vegetable enthusiast, with some mockumentary-esque interview-type sequences, the latest trailer sees a similar approach with Humphry, who will be played by another British comedy legend, Matt King, with the footage being framed as some kind of memoir for the retired hero. According to the trailer's description, Humphry will be forced out of retirement when a mysterious figure from his past threatens Albion’s very existence.
Part of Humphry's narration explains the ups and downs of being a hero and explains that a huge part of that is "about the choices you make." A short scene after shows a character stating that being a hero should mean they can do whatever they want, and another shows Humphry calling the mystery companion now “terrifying,” which hints at the option to make some less-than-heroic choices. Of course, the morality system has played a huge part in past Fable titles, with players' actions having far-reaching consequences, so it should be no surprise that it appears again in the game.
With Fable being the first new game in the series in more than 14 years - Fable 3 launched on Xbox 360 and PC in 2010 - fans should be pleased that they won't have to wait too much longer to get their hands on the game. Hopefully, now the 2025 release window is confirmed, even more information will begin to emerge about Fable's story and gameplay mechanics, and how players can shape the land of Albion.
