Following the end of the MCU's Infinity Saga, WandaVision had a definitive ending, things are different for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
After embracing the role of Captain America, there is still a lot to see about how Sam will not only carry on Steve's legacy, but forge his own. With Bucky seemingly putting the Winter Soldier moniker behind him for good, it's time to figure out what is next for him. Even John Walker's U.S. Agent has a lot more story to cover. Here's what to know about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2, including its potential release date, story, whether it will happen or not, and what other MCU projects could carry on its narrative.
Will The Falcon & The Winter Soldier Season 2 Happen?
Marvel has a lot of new MCU TV shows coming to Disney+, and as it stands, everything confirmed is just for one season, just like WandaVision. However, it has also been revealed that some shows will get second seasons, although it's not known which ones they will be, and Kevin Feige has said ideas for Falcon & Winter Soldier season 2 have been discussed. There's no guarantee of it happening, but it has been another success in of viewership for the streaming service, so there's always a chance it could happen.
The Falcon & The Winter Soldier Season 2 Release Date
If The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 were to happen, then when would it be released? Marvel already has a packed roster of movies and shows and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier season 2 is nowhere to be found. Given that Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* are set to be released in 2025, and no announcement of another season in the works, the absolute earliest the series could be released seems like early 2026.
The Falcon & The Winter Soldier Season 2 Cast
Should The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 happen, then most of its cast could likely come back. Obviously, Sam Wilson and Bucky would return, but a number of other characters could easily come back. There is still alot to explore with Sharon Carter in Madripool, as well as Zemo, whose narrative started back in Captain America: Civil War. John Walker as U.S. Agent could be an interesting foil to Sam and Bucky if there is a second season of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
The Falcon & The Winter Soldier Season 2 Story Details
While the Flag-Smashers are defeated, there was plenty of setup for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2's story in the season 1 finale. The biggest hint of this comes in episode 6's post-credits scene, which sees Sharon Carter being granted a pardon and given a job back with the government, only to reveal in a phone call she plans on taking them down from the inside. It's not revealed who she's speaking to, but the implication is either Zemo or, more likely, Valentina.

Why Sam Wilson Is Captain America Now In The MCU
While Steve Rogers is Marvel's original Captain America, Sam Wilson is the only character to hold the title officially in the MCU in the present day.
This could be set up for the Thunderbolts* film, which could be the central threat that Sam and Bucky have to deal with in a potential second season of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Leading the way with that could be John Walker, who adopted his US Agent persona. While the series steered away from the outright villainous turn it set up, his different methods could bring him into conflict with Sam and Bucky once again, depending on what happens in Thunderbolts*.
Would Falcon & Winter Soldier Season 2 Be Titled Captain America & The Winter Soldier ?
The end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier reveals a new title for the show: Captain America and The Winter Soldier. This reflects that Sam Wilson has truly become Captain America, an identity he confirms within the episode itself, while Bucky is, despite his healing, still referred to as the Winter Soldier. Since Sam is now Cap, then having The Falcon and The Winter Soldier season 2 be called that would no longer make sense, so logically, then it would be using the new title.
Sam Wilson's Story Continues In Captain America: Brave New World
Even if The Falcon and The Winter Soldier doesn't get a second season, Sam Wilson's story will continue with Captain America: Brave New World. The film will take place where The Falcon and The Winter Soldier left off, with Sam Wilson as Captain America. Thaddeus Ross, who is now the President of the United States. In the trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, Ross wants to make Captain America an official military position again.
Harrison Ford makes his MCU debut as Thaddeus Ross, following the ing of William Hurt, who played the character since The Incredible Hulk.
Captain America: Brave New World looks to take Sam Wilson on another espionage thrill-ride, with new villains set to show up, including Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder, and Thaddeus Ross turning into Red Hulk at some point. If The Falcon and The Winter Soldier season 2 actually happens, it would most likely follow-up in any remaining narrative threads in Captain America: Brave New World.
Bucky Barnes' Story Continues In Marvel's Thunderbolts* Movie
Bucky will also get a follow-up to where his story in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier ended, this time with Thunderbolts*. The Thunderbolts are a team of anti-heroes and villains that have been brought together, likely by Valentina, for some reason that has yet to be revealed. This thread started in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier with Valentina recruiting John Walker, who became U.S. Agent in the process.

Thunderbolts* Cast & Marvel Character Guide
Several MCU characters return for Phase 5's Thunderbolts, a team of antiheroes and reformed villains attempting to follow in the Avengers' footsteps.
In the first trailer for Thunderbolts*, Bucky was seemingly hunting down of the team, raising questions about what he has been up to since his last appearance in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. It's unclear exactly what direction Bucky will take as a character, but he seems to eventually up and become a member of the Thunderbolts. Like Sam Wilson's next outing, Thunderbolts* could also lead into another season of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
