received positive early impressions, encouraging an early wave of players to try it out. If rave reviews weren't enough incentive, the game is also free for PlayStation Plus to this month.

Unfortunately, Fall Guys' huge surge of new players triggered major technical difficulties the morning of its launch, causing frustration for many players. Some of these early players decided to vent their frustrations on Steam, tweak the way reviews work.

Despite the game's rocky launch, the Fall Guys official Twitter shared in a celebratory tweet that the game saw an astounding number of players in its first 24 hours. The tweet playfully suggests the overwhelming success might also have been linked to launch issues as they struggled to handle the unexpected traffic. However, the message also explains the team will be taking action to fix problems in a patch and that the developers are taking all into consideration.

Fall Guys is the latest in a series of successes for publisher Devolver Digital. The company recently oversaw the launch of Carrion, a short and enjoyable experience that encourages players to walk a mile in a scientist-eating monster's shoes. Devolver Digital also released a true world premiere in Devolverland Expo, a virtual recreation of E3 marketing.

It's great that Fall Guys was able to navigate the troubled waters of its launch. A new game from an indie developer can often expect to sink in the wake of negative first-day reviews. In this case, 1.5 million players on the first day is an amazing feather for Mediatonic to place in its cap and maybe the success will give players pause before they storm off to give a new game a knee-jerk low rating. That's not to say developers shouldn't be held to a higher standard on launch day. So many companies are relying on day-one patches to make games actually playable, which leaves fans understandably upset. It may be easier to forgive the Fall Guys team's initial failing due to its open communication about the game's problems and the fact that it was back up and running by that evening.
