A new set of costumes in Fall Guys costume crossovers, from Shovel Knight to Among Us and Ratchet and Clank.
Fall Guys released in late 2020 amidst the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, receiving initial acclaim from critics and players as a fun battle-royale title that wasn't an FPS. In Fall Guys, players engaged in a colorful and bizarre gauntlet of platforming challenges until only one winner remained. While playing to be the ultimate winner at the end is fun, many players also enjoy unlocking the many cosmetic options the game offers. Developer Mediatonic has also collaborated with other properties like Cuphead, Sonic, and Portal to develop new costumes based on popular franchises for a limited time. Along with a large selection of avatar options, Fall Guys going free-to-play on PS5, Xbox, and PC in 2022 has also brought a slew of new content for players to enjoy.
In a short video teaser via the official FallGuysGame's Twitter, Mediatonic has unveiled the newest costumes to the battle royale game's already extensive wardrobe. The teaser revealed that Mediatonic is partnering with the creators of internet sensation Pusheen to create two new skins for players to galavant in Fall Guys’ obstacle courses. As the video starts, a Fall Guy is sporting a cute costume based on none other than Pusheen herself. Soon after, it jumps into a cardboard box, revealing the second skin as the Super Pusheenicorn variant. These adorable costumes will be available for a limited time for all players from July 14 -18. The requirements to unlock them are currently unknown.
While a viral sensation from 2020, Fall Guys' popularity had started to wane in the years since. However, thanks in large part to the Fall Guys free-to-play update, the game thankfully saw quite a resurgence in its player base. Consistent content updates like the Pusheen collaboration further demonstrate that Fall Guys remains alive and well. Pusheen's collaboration with the game also shows how popular the internet cat has become, having gone from a small comic strip in 2010 to a brand with a wide selection of merchandise in less than a decade.
Costume collaborations like the one with Pusheen have been a valuable lifeline to Fall Guys over its life cycle. Seeing a Fall Guy adorned in the garb of other famous properties waddle frantically through the game's challenges is enjoyable, and although some players have bemoaned the addition of paid costume crossovers to Fall Guys, it could be seen as a necessity of the free-to-play model. Here's hoping that, as the game continues to evolve, Mediatonic continues to add more fun outfits and courses for players to tackle.
