To help celebrate the RPG series' 25th anniversary, Bethesda is working on a free next-gen update for Fallout 5 will be Bethesda's next game after The Elder Scrolls 6. Even though both projects are years away, fans will not need to wait long for new Fallout content.
Fallout 4 isn't the latest game in the franchise. Although it had a rough launch in 2018, Fallout 76 was Bethesda's first online multiplayer game it developed, and the game has drastically improved over time. Recently, Fallout 76 hosted special events that added Spooky Scorched enemies and daily rewards to celebrate the series' 25th anniversary. Bethesda may not have anything to tease regarding Fallout 5 since the game's release date is still many years away. Still, it did share that a next-gen update for the series' fourth installment is coming very soon. Unlike the recently released next-gen only Gotham Knights', a performance mode and higher frame rate gameplay is coming to Fallout 4.
A free next-gen update for Fallout 4 is coming out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC. The free upgrade was announced in a blog post on the Bethesda website encapsulating the Fallout series 25th-anniversary celebrations. The update will be available to for owners of Fallout 4 sometime in 2023. Players will be able to enjoy higher frame rates and adjustable settings that will make the apocalyptic open-world game look better than ever, with 4K visuals and more.
Fallout 4 Is Getting Upgraded On PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
Games like Skyrim and Fallout benefit significantly from having very active modding communities. Mods can fix bugs and add features that could add hundreds of hours worth more content to a game. Bethesda has embraced mods with the Creation Club, which allows the developer and modders to get new content to Fallout 4 players. The developer is currently vague on details, but the free next-gen update will also add new Creation Club content. While performance mode will be exclusive to newer consoles, new Creation Club content should be available on the last and current-gen versions of Fallout 4. A full list of everything that's currently been announced for the next-gen update can be found below:
- Performance Mode
- High Frame-Rate Gameplay
- 4K Resolution
- Bonus Creation Club Content
- Bug Fixes And Improvements
Players who have been able to enjoy Fallout 4 on PC already have access to higher resolutions and frame rates. Still, the next-gen update should provide a range of bug fixes and other improvements from the game's previous releases. This update is reminiscent of Skyrim Anniversary Edition including Creation Club mods, but it seems unlikely Fallout 4 will have the same amount added for no cost. Bethesda should reveal more details regarding Fallout 4's next-gen patch before it releases sometime in 2023, which will hopefully subdue the hunger fans have for new Fallout content.
