  • Vertibirds are essential in Survival Mode, offering advantages like marking points of interest.

Players new to the world of the fascistic Brotherhood of Steel to gain access to their very own Vertibird, but veterans want everyone to know there's another solution. When it comes to moving around the Commonwealth, the most efficient way to reach one's destination is to simply pop open the map and fast-travel to any discovered location. Unfortunately, that's not exactly the most immersive method so for Sole Survivors looking to embed themselves in the Wasteland or happen to be playing on Survival, the Vertibird is the next best option.

Posted to Reddit by Senecatwo, the Fallout 4 veteran shared some advice for newcomers on how to gain access to Vertibird travel without ing the Brotherhood of Steel, one of the game's more prominent (and sinister) factions.

They note that most factions actually have the power to provide the Sole Survivor with Vertibird lifts after they complete the main campaign; these just happen to be captured vehicles rather than "officially licensed." Sure, the fastest route is to the BoS, but for those who may disagree with their ideologies, it's an opportunity to not miss out on the fun.

Back when Fallout 4 launched in 2015, many players expressed disappointment that Vertibirds were such a limited feature given that they simply provide the Sole Survivor with a lift around the Commonwealth, functioning as a slower form of Fast Travel. While that may be true in the most simple sense, the vehicle does grant some additional bonuses such as the ability to mark points of interest while moving over the map, something that can't be done with fast travel. Vertibirds can also be used when over-encumbered, meaning players can pick up as much loot as they want.

It's also worth noting that Vertibirds are almost essential when playing through Fallout 4 on Survival Mode given that the setting disables fast-travel. Calling out a Vertibird in the middle of a difficult battle can often be the best way to get by with just a few scrapes, not to mention the amount of time it'll save. The Commonwealth is large, and trekking through it on foot can be tiresome even on the sunniest of days.

Fallout 4's Vertibirds may not be the most mechanically complicated feature of the game but they still go a long way to creating an immersive, lived-in environment. Newcomers should that the Brotherhood of Steel, no matter what it claims, isn't the exclusive owner of high-tech transport: The Railroad and need them to gain Power Armor, so players who disagree with their principles shouldn't feel strong-armed into ing the group.
