- Saving Deathclaws for Fallout season 2 was important to give them proper attention and not rush their introduction.
- Season 1 focused on world-building, including Vaults, the Brotherhood of Steel, and introducing other dangers in the Wasteland.
- The ending of season 1 teased Deathclaws and the iconic location of New Vegas, hinting at what's to come in season 2.
Co-creator Graham Wagner explains why Fallout season 1 doesn't include an iconic video game enemy. Based on the best-selling Bethesda video game franchise, Prime Video's post-apocalyptic adaptation follows a Vault Dweller, a Brotherhood of Steel squire, and a ghoul bounty hunter who cross paths while traveling through the perilous wasteland brimming with bandits, radiation, and mutated creatures. The cast includes Ella Purnell as Lucy, Aaron Moten as Maximus, Walton Goggins as The Ghoul/Cooper Howard, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias, and Xelia Mendes-Jones.
During an interview with The Wrap, Wagner explained why Deathclaws weren't included in Fallout season 1. The co-creator says they decided not to include the iconic creatures because they wanted to give them the attention they deserve and not rush their introduction amid all the other world-building they had to do. Instead, they're saving Deathclaws for season 2 so they can properly tackle them. Read his full comments below:
We wanted to get Deathclaws, but we didn't want to just throw it away. It's such a monumental piece. We want to save something for Season 2 to be able to do it properly, not just added on to the massive world building we had to do already in Season 1. So Season 2, we're very excited to finally tackle one of the most iconic elements of the games.
What To Expect From Deathclaws In Fallout Season 2
The Deathclaws Make More Sense For Fallout Season 2
As apex predators, Deathclaws are one of the most dangerous creatures from the games, known for their combination of sheer speed and size, which will be exciting to see when translated into live-action for season 2.
It was a sage decision to save Deathclaws for Fallout season 2 since, as Wagner explains, they had a lot of other world-building to do in the first season. This includes introducing the interconnected Vaults 33, 32, and 31, the Brotherhood of Steel, and the history of the Vault-Tec corporation. Though it didn't include Deathclaws, season 1 did introduce some of the dangers that lurk about the Wasteland, including raiders and a mutated creature known as a gulper.

The World Of Fallout Explained
In celebration of Fallout's release on Prime Video, here's Screen Rant's complete guide to the franchise's characters, locations, lore, and changes.
Though they weren't seen in the flesh in season 1, Deathclaws will surely be included in season 2, as promised by Wagner and teased by the Fallout season 1 ending. During the final moments of the finale, a giant skull with horns and fanged teeth is shown, which is undoubtedly a Deathclaw. As apex predators, Deathclaws are one of the most dangerous creatures from the games, known for their combination of sheer speed and size, which will be exciting to see when translated into live-action for season 2.
During the season 1 ending, the Deathclaw skull is seen on the outskirts of a cityscape that is almost certainly New Vegas. Similar to the Deathclaws, the iconic location featured in Fallout: New Vegas was seemingly saved for season 2 in order to adapt it properly. Though season 2 has yet to be officially renewed by Prime Video, there are many factors that make it likely, and when it happens, Deathclaws should be there in all of their glory, along with some of the other mutated creatures that occupy the Wasteland.
Fallout Season 2 Should Continue The Story Of Season 1
The Finale Sets Up Key Characters To Return For More
The Ghoul's own agenda, finding his family, holds the promise of addressing Lucy's lingering questions.
Fallout season 2 has yet to be officially renewed by Prime Video, though it is becoming increasingly likely. First off, Fallout season 1's reviews were incredibly positive, praising the adaptation as a post-apocalyptic adventure that appeals to both newcomers and dedicated fans alike, while also seamlessly expanding upon the gaming experience. However, whether season 2 happens will likely depend on season 1's viewing numbers, which aren't available to the public yet. That said, season 1 has everything going for it to be a massive hit.
If renewed, the three main of the Fallout cast are expected to return: Ella Purnell as the young Vault Dweller Lucy; Aaron Moten as the Brotherhood of Steel member Maximus; and Walton Goggins as the gunslinging Ghoul. of Lucy's family, her father Hank (Kyle MacLachlan) and brother Norm (Moisés Arias), are also expected to return. Although more of a minor character, the Brotherhood of Steel scribe Dane (Xelia Mendes-Jones) should also have a role waiting for them in season 2.

Though there has been some talk of the Fallout show becoming an anthology, the season 1 ending set the stage for a direct continuation of its story. Hank pilfers the power armor from Maximus and heads to New Vegas, which will have a significant impact on season 2's storyline. The Fallout show is set in the year 2296, a full 15 years after the events of the Fallout: New Vegas video game, which is set in the year 2281. This is important for season 2, since the show and games are set within the same continuity.
As for Lucy, she decides to depart with The Ghoul instead of staying behind with Maximus, killing their chances of living together happily in Vault 33 for the time being. Lucy's primary motivation for her decision appears to be her quest for answers about her father's history, which she should receive some semblance of in season 2. The Ghoul's own agenda, finding his family, holds the promise of addressing Lucy's lingering questions. This should form the foundation for Fallout season 2's storyline.
All eight episodes of Fallout season 1 are streaming on Prime Video.
